Chapter two.
Two weeks before the funeral.
The waves crashed into the sand and the smell of freshly cooked kebabs mixed with the ocean swept through the air, people hummed and yelled trying to hear each other over one another at the seaside market place. Lillian stared at the crashing waves waiting for her friend to come back with a hand full of kebabs.
"Oh my god they have the best kebabs here!" Amy had already taken a bite out of hers and was having trouble juggling two kebabs at once.
"Dude the rate your going your going to tumble off the jetty, and your kebab will be fish food" Lillian got hers and took a bite, the taste of Greek yoghurt sauce mixed with chicken, lettuce, cheese and sour cream filled her mouth. Lillian groaned in pleasure.
Amy raised an eyebrow and started laughing, Lillian admired Amy's smile, they had been friends since they were young and Lillian had never felt so jealous of anyone but her. Amy had straight teeth that always radiated beauty, red hair that Amy hated so much but Lillian adored it and freckles that take up most her face in an amazing way.
Lillian felt the weight of the world hit her stomach, she crouched down holding her tummy and controlling her breathing. She felt like crying for no reason, it had felt like the world sucked her energy out.
"Lillian shit are you okay?!" Amy dropped her kebab and leaned down to face height with Lillian.
"I'm not sure" Lillian looked around but wasn't sure what she was looking for "my anxiety just kicked in and I don't know why." Lillian tried controlling her breathing so she wouldn't throw up.
"We are going home now okay" Amy helped Lillian up and she nod her head in agreement.
By the time they walked back the sun was setting, Lillian didn't talk but Amy kept the mood light by telling stories and Lillian would either shrug or mutter in response. Amy's dad waited at the front door with a worried look on his face.
"Dad are you okay? What's wrong?" Amy opened the gate and closed it behind Lillian, Lillian gave CJ worried eyes CJ shook his head and rubbed his eyes.
"Ah Lillian, your mum is picking you up now. Somethings happened" CJ wouldn't look at Lillian but he knew the look she would have on his face. She stopped in her tracks.
"What do you mean something happened?" Lillian's voice sounded frightened.
"Just please come inside and wait for your mum, I don't know whats exactly happened" CJ turned and walked back inside the house leaving Lillian and Amy puzzled.
"What the Fuck?" Amy whispered to herself.
They both walked inside, CJ had already gone in his room and Lillian and Amy sat on the couch in silence waiting for the knock. It only took an hour or so to hear it, Lillian shot up and Amy grabbed her arm.
"Woah Lillian please settle, take your time" Lillian smiled in return, she loved the worry that radiated off of Amy, it made her feel important. As Lillian opened the door she stared at her mothers tear stained face.
"Mum whats happened?" Lillian stood in the door way blocking her mother hoping she would confess what was wrong there and than, but it was no use.
"Lillian we need to go..." Her mother wouldn't even look at her "Get your stuff and lets go, I'm sorry to rush off Amy" Her mothers voice cracked during her sentences trying to hold back the sadness that so wanted to consume her.
