Nothing exciting happened during the camp setup. The VOID tests Angus and I went through were fairly standard and simple, to say the least.
I sat down next to Angus and sighed. He stared at me for a moment.
"Hey. Shouldn't the little green light be on when it's recordin'?"
"I think so. Is it not?"
"Aye, it's nae on," he shook his head. I pulled the GoPro off my head and looked at the black screen.
"Aw, man!" I sighed, clicking the power button a couple of times, "When did this turn off?" I tapped the screen lens lightly.
"It doesn't look damaged," I thought.
"It probably turned off when we went through the Void," I looked away from the camera and toward Angus in horror."That long ago? It's been 2 hours!" I huffed, whining slightly.
"Aw we're doin’ is settin' up for the night, so it doesn't matter," Angus reassured me as he pulled a hand towel from a box.
"Doesn't matter? What if I lost something? I couldn't have gone back into the footage to find it. What if I caught an animal or something on camera? I could go back and review the footage to see the said animal," I explained, distressingly.
"That's a lot of ‘what ifs," Angus chuckled.
"I'm being serious,"
"I'm sure ya are," He brushed my comment off. I huffed, tilting my camera back up to look at it again.
"Doesn't seem to be damaged." I let out a sigh of relief. I quickly moved my head to the side to flick my dark hair out of my face. I rotated the camera and widened my eyes in surprise.
"Oh. It's back on. I don't even remember pressing the button," I mumbled, strapping the GoPro to my head again. I moved the strap so it fits my head comfortably again before standing up off the ground, brushing off the grass and dirt from my pants. I looked around for a moment, forgetting what I was going to do previously.
I ducked my head as I entered Angus' and my tent. I walked to my collapsible cot and opened the duffle bag on the tent floor. I grabbed a few mountable cameras and stepped back outside.
I put one in front of the tent and then scattered the rest of them on nearby trees. I glance at two figures, which move behind the food tent. Since it was starting to get dark, I couldn't see who it was. The hairs on the back of my neck prickle as I sense someone watching me. I quickly glance around before turning on the last camera. I take a deep breath and step inside the tent, scanning around for Angus.
"He must be helping the others or something," I thought as I sat down on my bed. To ease my mind, I changed my thinking to how I might catch some animals on camera tonight.
“I hope I see something cool on camera when I wake up tomorrow,” I say feeling giddy with anticipation for tomorrow's footage. I remove my GoPro from my head and with a wide smile I wave goodbye before turning it off. My smile falters as I put the camera on top of my duffel bag. I lay down, staring up at the tent ceiling.
The tent unzips, "Hey, Remi. Let's go eat." Angus pops his head in to speak. I turn my head to the side to look at him.
"I'm not hungry. I'm just.. tired right now," I explain, "You go eat. I'm going to sleep for the night." I turn over to face the wall of the tent.
"You're gonna be starvin' in the morning," he mumbles as he zips the tent back up.
"You're such a worry-wort," I mumble quietly to him even though he wouldn't hear me. I glance at the clock: 19:39. I sit up and pull off my shirt before tossing it next to me. I lay down and turned over onto my side.
