Chapter 22

Revealing the known as the unknown (Part 2):

Jim's pov:

Jim looked around everything  with fake amazement plastered on his face but after seeing the glowing heartstone Jim's mind started to get flooded by memories both good and bad and in his mind. Toby and his friends finally brought Jim Infront of Vendel's hut and upon entering they saw Blinky and Aaarrrgggh along with Vendel waiting for them. Vendel spoke," So, this is the human who defeated Bular with his bare hands. Hmmm, has a very strong build and seems like he has exceptional strength but it's his skills that truly matters." "Hello, my name is James Lake Jr. it's nice to meet you." Replied Jim. Vendel replied," Yes,yes. Now let's go to the hero's forge and we will see how skilled you are." As they made their way towards the forge they saw trolls gathering at the arena for what they think will be a good show but it will not be in the way they expect. Vendel explains what Jim must pass the trials of the forge and he tells Jim to pick a weapon and Jim picks up a cleaver sword and Vendel

signals Blinky to activate the forge after stepping down from the platform. At first three figures popped up shooting iron needles at high speed which Jim blocks using the sword even without turning his front towards the needles then he just seamlessly jumps behind the figures and destroys them with a single swing even before he lands on the ground. He passes every obstacle without breaking a sweat. Toby, Vendel, Darcy,Mary, Blinky, Aaarrrgggh and all the trolls present saw this as their jaws were hanging from shock which they got by observing  Jim's performance. Vendel started clapping and he finally exclaimed in wonder," My word, you have grown more powerful than last time, trollhunter!" Everyone was shocked at Vendel's exclamation. Jim said," Um, I'm not the trollhunter. Toby's the trollhunter." Vendel seemed flustered as he stammered," Oh, sorry I mixed you up with a trollhunter of the past." Toby came running and said," Jimbo, with you on our side team trollhunters will be unstoppable." Jim replied,"Whoa,Whoa slow you horses buddy. I can't join your team Tobes. I have a mother who is weak and I have to protect her. But I believe in you Tobes, just don't die and if you get into too much trouble just call me and I'll come running." Toby gave an understanding nod and hugged Jim. Vendel on the other hand was collecting his thoughts he was seeing Jim training in the forge with the trollhunter armour on and he saw himself getting stabbed with a neck dart covered with the creeper's sun by Usurna. Within a moment he figured out that these visions were his memories from an alternate timeline and he concluded that Jim was the one who turned back time and made Toby the trollhunter for some inexplicable reason. Vendel saw Jim returning the cleaver sword in its place but Vendel called out," Wait,keep the sword James. You'll need it to protect the people you care for and I would like to speak with you privately with you." Jim simply nodded and made their way towards Vendel's hut. Vendel asked," Why did you turn back time trollhunter?" Jim explained everything to Vendel and Vendel simply sighed and said," I hope everything goes differently this time." Then at that moment they heard a thud and they turned and saw Darcy standing with a shocked expression on her face. Darcy came running and grabbed Jim by the collar and said," You will restore Toby's memories or I tell him that his best friend has been deceiving him all this time." Jim calmly replied," So, you want Toby to die?" Hearing this Darcy let go of Jim's collar and gives him a questioning look and Jim explains why Toby needs to learn how to wield a sword and why restoring his memories now will bring back previous muscle memories which cannot be replaced easily. Darcy simply stayed silent for a while and finally said," Promise me you will protect and guide Toby as long as it takes only then this secret stays between us." Jim slightly chuckled and replied," That is my plan." Darcy simply left.

Toby's pov:

Toby was walking along the streets of trollmarket unmindfully but was brought back to reality by a large stone hand placed upon his shoulder and he turned around to see it was Draal. Draal asked why he looked so upset and unmindful. Toby said," Atlas is more skilled than me, Jimbo is stronger than me,more confident than me and he's fearless. Am I even comparable to them?" Draal rubbed his chin for a while and started running and while running he screamed," Wait there, don't move a muscle." After a few moments he came back with a glowing necklace.

Draal explained ," While the Grit-Shakas will not make you more skilled but it will banish all of your fears making you more fierce. But exercise caution for this is a Gumm-gumm totem and don't let it consume your mind and corrupt you." Every fibre in Toby's body was screaming not to use it but he ignored all the warnings his mind was giving him and he put it on and his eyes glowed green.
