The year was 1993.

Mark Lee and Lee Donghyuck, known as Haechan, were sitting in a cafe in downtown Busan.

The cars drove by, shining their headlights against the rain puddles on the dark street.

Mark stared at Haechan, admiring his boyfriends features.

"I can feel you staring at me.", Haechan said.

He turned to face Mark.

"What can I say? You're handsome.", Mark replied.

Haechan grabbed his hands. He lightly rubbed over them with his thumb.

"So are you. But I'm sure you know that."

"Indeed I do."

The two laughed.

"Stay here Haechan, I'll be right back."

Haechan watched as Mark got up and walked away.

After a few minutes of waiting, Haechan heard singing.

He turned around to see Mark walking from the back of the cafe with a cake in his hand.

"Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy birthday to my Haechan! Happy Birthday to you!"

Haechan smiled as widely as possible, watching Mark sit down with the cake.

"I thought you forgot.", he said.

"I could never forget you baby.", Mark replied.

Haechan looked at the cake. He closed his eyes, making his wish.

"What did you wish for?", Mark asked.

"Can't tell you. If I do, it won't happen."

"Ah okay okay."

The two laughed.

But their laughter was cut short when Haechan's name was yelled.

"Lee Donghyuck! What the hell are you doing?"

Both boys stood up.

Haechan's father had entered the restaurant.

"Dad, I'm just-"

"Don't try to lie to me. You're hanging out with this boy! I told you not to!"

"I'm an adult! I can make my own decisions!"

"You can make any decision you want, I don't care. But dating another man cannot be one of them! Not as long as you are MY son!"

Haechan grabbed Mark's hand.

"Nothing you can say or do will separate us. You're just angry that I am happier than you will ever be in life."

Haechan's dad walked up to him, slapping him across the face.

The boy held his face in shock.

Mark went in front of him.

"Baby, are you okay?"

Haechan looked at his dad.

"Let's go Mark."

Mark held his hand and they quickly left the cafe.
