He's just so annoying
Crowds of people filled the room, drinks were being poured and the night was still young. I swerved around the guests, in search of my brother. It had been a while since I'd seen him and besides, I was beginning to feel a bit lonely. I never enjoyed these big, fancy events or being surrounded by people I did not know.
"Oscar," I muttered as I made a bee-line towards him.
"Good party, eh?" he smiled as I placed myself next to him, my eyes surveying the room.
"I suppose," I mumbled, trying to smile sweetly. As Oscar rambled on with a 'hilarious story' about one the mechanics, my eyes were averted towards something else. There he stood, dressed in black, like it wasn't a Christmas party. Hair as curly as ever. Laughing and joking, as always. Because the boy was incapable of taking anything seriously.
"Y/N?" Oscar's voice sounded in my ear.
"Sorry, what?"
"You're not listening to me are you?" he asked, his eyes following my gaze until he saw what I had been so distracted by. "Oh, for goodness sake, Y/N." he hissed. I tutted, turning to face him.
"What? He's just so...annoying."
"I really don't understand your obsession with Lando."
"I am not obsessed with him!" I defended myself. "I just find him annoying to be around."
"And that is why you're always staring at him," said Oscar.
"No, he just takes all the attention because he's so loud and obnoxious," I replied.
"He's funny!"
"Whatever, I need a drink," I said before walking away from my brother. How dare he say I'm obsessed with Lando. I mean, I barely even speak to the man anymore, I try to avoid him after all the clashes we've had the past. And I will stand by what I say. "Obnoxious," I whispered under my breath as I argued inside my head.
"Who is?" a chirpy voice appeared right next to me, smile spread across his whole face.
I sighed, choosing not to reply, but to focus on which drink I was going to have next.
"Excuse me?" he continued.
"You're excused," I replied, carefully selecting a glass of prosecco.
"Wow," Lando gasped, dramatising his reaction. "And here's me, thinking we got along great!" He pressed his hand to his chest and shook his head. "Unbelievable."
"Are you done?" I asked, taking a sip.
"Sounds like you're done." He shrugged his shoulders. I replied by walking away. I did not wish to prolong any kind of conversation.I drifted over to a couple of people I knew and joined their conversation. The rest of the evening was becoming much more pleasant.
"I just need to nip to the toilet," I giggled, placing another empty glass on the table.I found my way outside the main room and along a straight corridor. There were no signs so I guessed left and kept walking, making a right at the bottom. The walls were lined with beautiful paintings from all kinds of artists. The ceilings were furnished with the most grand chandeliers. But I still couldn't find the toilet. Shouldn't have had all that prosecco.
"Probably not," a voice sounded from behind me. I must've said that aloud.
Turning around, I found Lando a short distance away, striding towards me.
"Are you actually following me?" I questioned, my voice clearly filled with annoyance.
"Why would I do that? I'm not obsessed with you," he said, smirking slightly. Obsessed? Had he been talking to Oscar recently?
I raised my eyebrows. "What are you doing, Lando?" I asked, folding my arms.
"I'm looking for the toilet..." he trailed off, spinning his head around. "But I can't find it."
"Oh," was all I managed in reply. We stood there for what felt like the world's longest few seconds until he finally walked on past me. I turned my body to watch him walk off and then decided I'd have to follow him.
"Look who's following me now!" he joked, opening a set of double doors at the end of the corridor. I followed him in, allowing the doors to close behind me, letting the music fade.
