The Walter house is louder than New York City.
How could a ranch be louder than one of the most populated cities in the globe?
Have 12 people living in one house, that's how.
As Katherine, Jackie and I walk into the house, George following father behind with our luggage, chaos erupts. Phone's are ringing, kids are crying, and boys are shouting.
"Alright girls welcome home. I'll give you guys a tou-" Katherine begins to say before being interrupted by her ringing cell phone. "Uh huh..yeah. I told you guys I can't make it to the clinic today, I have family business to take care of. Alright, I suppose." Katherine shuts her phone off in annoyance and turns to us.
"Girls I'm so sorry, but I have to head to the clinic. I told them you girls were coming and that I was taking today off but it appears they need me." Katherine quickly explained, a frantic look in her eyes.
"What happened? Is everything okay?" Jackie asked. Perfect Jackie, always conscious of others feelings.
"Everything is alright dear, just um..." Katherine began to say, her voice trailing off and looking around the house. Suddenly finding a spare person and grabbing them by the arm "Will! You're not busy right? Great! Would you give these two girls a tour? Perfect! I'm headed to the clinic now! I'll see you at dinner!" Katherine says, rushing out the door, only grabbing her bag before making her way out.
"I was going to meet up with Hayley...but um sure." Will mutters, and stares at us. I shoot him an awkward smile, and he clasps his hands together. "Alright where did you guys leave off?"
"We just walked in." I say, crossing my arms and scanning the house. Surprisingly enough, the house isn't as messy as I would have expected it to be. If anything, my bedroom is more of a mess. I catch myself. My old bedroom was more of a mess.
You don't live in New York anymore Luna, wake up.
"Alright well, here's the kitchen." Will says, motioning us to follow him. There are three young kids drawing at the table. A boy who looked around 12, a little blond girl, and a little boy. "That's Jordan, Parker and Benny." Will says, pointing off as he names each of them.
Will then turns around and points to the kitchen island, "And that's Alex". Alex looks up from his book and gives us a little wave, mainly directed at my sister. I can't help but notice the way he looks at her, he can't look away. I let out a little chuckle.
"What are you laughing at?" Jackie whispers to me.
"Nothing!" I say with a smirk. Good luck trying to figure out the inner workings of Jackie Howard, Alex Walter.
"Alright onto the living room" Will says. We follow him, and I can't help but take note of Alex lingering behind us. Desperate much? I look behind me and make short eye contact with him, but he quickly looks away. "Here is Danny, Nathan, Lee, and Isaac."
I turn around, awkwardly making eye contact and smiling at each of the boys. Once I make eye contact with Isaac, he looks me up and down with a smirk on his face.
"Nice hair." He nods at me, looking at my bangs and the rest of my ginger hair. A feeling of disgust fills my stomach. The boy is cute, but now is seriously not the time to be flirting with guys. Not in this strange home, not at this strange time.
"Thanks" I whisper, awkwardly and straight faced. I dyed my hair shortly before the car crash, I needed a change in my life. Now my life is filled with nothing but changes. He seems disappointed by my reaction and focuses back on his video game. But I can't help but notice how although seemingly disappointed by my reaction, he still manages to continue sneaking looks at me.
Will doesn't seem to notice this of course, and walks out towards the pool. "And here's the last one of us." He says, motioning towards the pool. Jackie and I follow his gaze and see a blonde boy make his way out of the swimming pool.
He is nothing short of hot. He shoots us a quick glance and then continues to grab himself a towel, as if it's normal that we're here.
"Want to introduce yourself?" Will asks.
"They'll figure it out." The blonde brother says, laying down and closing his eyes on a beach chair.
"That's Cole." Will mutters, "I would say sorry for his attitude but he's always like that. Anyways, I'll show you two up to your room."
We follow Will back into the house and up the stairs, passing each of the rooms with the boys. I feel like a lab rat being watched by a bunch of scientists. I just want to get away. The only thing I'm really looking forward to is setting up posters in my bedroom and finding a place to skateboard. We stop in front of a doorway, and I look to see two beds on opposite sides of the room. Our luggage is sitting in the middle of the room, George must have brought them up. I silently remind myself to thank him for that later.
"We are sharing a room?" I ask, evidently annoyed. Jackie gives me a light hit on the shoulder, glaring at me for my question.
"What? Did you two expect to get your own bedrooms in a house as full as this one? Things are a lot different in Colorado than they are in New York." Will says with a chuckle.
"Right yeah sorry." I quickly apologize and make my way into the bedroom. I grab my luggage and pick the bed on the right side of the room since it seems to be getting more sun.
"Alright I'll leave you girls to it." Will says, walking back downstairs. Once he leaves, Jackie starts to get settled into her side of the bedroom. I look out of the window that's above my bed.
Now that is a lot of sky.
Colorado will definitely be nothing like New York City.
