My Childhood Friend Can't Be My Girlfriend

Chapter 2

"Hey were you waiting long?"

"Not really, I just got here."

"So shall we get going?"

"Yeah..."

If you're wondering what's happening right now it would be that I, Taku Mamoru, am having a date with my childhood friend Hana Misato today. The reason for this is...well let's go back as to what happend yesterday.

"I want to ask for your advice..." She said hesitantly.

"Advice? Hmm sure let me here what advice you need."

"Umm...actually I need your advice in picking a gift for a guy."

"A guy?!"

I was shocked?! Who is she giving this gift to...don't tell me it's a boy that she likes.

"Will you tell me who this guy is?"

"Sorry but it's a secret..."

"I see..."

This is suspicious....Maybe my worst fears have been realized and that she already likes somebody to the point of buying him a gift. But then I heard her say something that shocked me...

"So that's why let's go to the mall tomorrow to look for a gift."

"What did you say again?"

That's right...my ears must be hearing things and that wasn't what she actually said...

"I said that let's go to the mall together tomorrow to pick a gift."

"ok..."

My somewhat confused mind made me answer with just an ok but deep down I was so overjoyed that I couldn't hold back smiling.

"So let's meet tomorrow after class at the front gate."

Which now brings us to the current situation of me now meeting at the gate with my childhood friend and we started walking to the mall.

"So you say that you want me to give you advice but I don't even think my taste would also suit the taste of the guy you're giving the gift to. I mean not all boys have the same taste..."

While I was speaking Hana was staring at a crane game in the arcade we pass through not listening to a word I said and he glares at me that says get one for me in which I gave in. By the way Hana is quite fond of cute stuff toys in which I usually get for her making me quite an expert at a crane game now though it still takes me three tries to do it.

"Now then let's not get sidetrack here...we're suppose to..."

Again when I looked beside me she disappeared and was looking at a cafe shop that looks quite expensive.

"Now now let's not get sidetrack here."

I repeated since I don't think she heard me the first time. And the response I get is a terrifying glare that seems to say I really want to go there.

"At this rate we'll never be able to buy the gift I mean it's already 5:00 and we shouldn't be out so late."

"But...we should have enough time fpr just this last one..." she said in a pleading voice though still monotonous.

"Hmm...fine then just for 15 minutes ok?"

"Ok then."

So we went to cafe and while being seated in a table I saw a familiar face which was Mami Kanzaki my close friend. Our eyes met and she was about to go to me but she saw who I was with and suddenly decided not to go there instead I got a text from her saying:

"Nice going Ta-kun and here I thought you weren't making any progress."

I glanced to where Mami is and she gave me a thumbs up sign which made me feel irritated. Plus he called me Ta-kun which is kinda like my nickname since Taku-kun seems too repetitive hence my nickname. When I looked in front Hana was staring at me with a puzzled look as I was glancing around.

"Now we should only order drinks since I'm on a budget here."

"Fine then."

So we ordered our drinks which were really expensive and I again asked the question.

"So will you tell me now who this guy is?"

"Like I said it's a secret."

"Is this guy special to you or something?"

"Well you could say that."

Man I'm gonna try not to pry anymore since I might get even more depressed than I already am.

"Fine then...let's go now and buy that gift."

We left the cafe and I waved goodbye at Mami but she was chuckling for some reason...

So after the cafe we went to a clothing store in which we went to pick the gift. Just saying though I'm quite fond with clothes and maybe that's why she asked for my advice since maybe she trusts my judgement? I'll never know but time went by quickly and we finished buying the gift and now it's 6:30 already.

"It's about time we go back home."

"Yeah..."

So we started heading back to my home but the road we passed by was quite crowded and then I looked at where Hana was suppose to be but she disappeared?!

"Hana where are you!!"

I called around three times and.I was panicking since no one answered but I was able to see her from a far but it looks like there was someone with her... I ran quickly to go there.

"Hey what are you doing alone here girl want to come with us?"

"I'm with somebody right now."

"C'mon don't you lie to us and just come."

I stepped in as they were about to force her to come.

"There you are Hana. Sorry guys I'm with her and if you have any business with her then you have to go through me."

"tsk."

The thugs left and I let out a sigh.

"Hey are you ok Hana?"

"Yeah...thanks..."

She's trembling a bit she must jave been scared but I didn't want to say anything.

"Hold my hand so that we won't get lost this time around."

I was a bit flustered as I said this but it's better to do this rather than be separated again.

"Ok.." she said hesitantly

As I hold her hand it was still trembling but it felt warm and soft. I'm happy to be alive right now.

"Now shall we head back?"

"Yes."

While walking back as we are now close to my home Hana suddenly spoke up.

"I would really like to thank you today..."

Then suddenly tears fell from the ground...she was crying...

"I don't know what I would have done without you *sob sob* I was so scared when we got separated and some guys came..."

"Hana...."

"Please don't get separated from me again."

"I won't. I promise I will always be there for you."

As I said that she cried some more and I decided to hug her to calm her down...this is the first time seeing her like this. We ended up holding hands until we arrived home...and she went back to her own home.

I was surprised that she does have emotions and she showed it to me...I kept thinking about what happend the whole night and ended up not sleeping much. That is when I realized that I may have gotten closer with her.
