Nagi Seishiro lazily scrolled through his phone, his fingers moving effortlessly over the screen as he immersed himself in the latest mobile game. The familiar sounds of digital warfare filled his ears, temporarily transporting him to another world where he was the hero, saving the day with each tap of his thumb.
It was just another random Sunday in Nextdoor, a quiet suburb of Japan where nothing much ever seemed to happen. That is until a new family moved in next door, disrupting the tranquil routine Nagi had grown accustomed to. His parents had mentioned the arrival of their new neighbors, but Nagi had been too preoccupied with his virtual adventures to pay much attention.
As he lounged in his room, a sudden commotion from outside drew his attention. Curiosity piqued, Nagi reluctantly tore his gaze away from his phone and peered out the window. What he saw made his heart skip a beat.
A moving truck was parked in front of the neighboring house, and a flurry of activity surrounded it. Boxes were being unloaded and carried into the house, while voices floated through the air, signaling the arrival of the new residents. Nagi's interest was piqued, but he remained rooted to his spot, content to observe from a distance.
It wasn't until later that afternoon, when he heard the sound of laughter echoing from the backyard, that Nagi finally decided to investigate. With a resigned sigh, he reluctantly set his phone aside and made his way downstairs, his curiosity getting the better of him.
Stepping out into the warm afternoon sun, Nagi shielded his eyes against the glare and scanned the yard. That's when he saw her.
She was standing by the edge of the garden, her long hair catching the sunlight as she laughed at something her parents said. Nagi couldn't tear his gaze away, captivated by the sight of her. He watched as she turned, her eyes meeting his for the briefest of moments before she quickly looked away, a blush staining her cheeks.
Nagi felt a strange fluttering in his chest as he realized that he was staring, and he quickly averted his gaze, feeling a heat rise to his own cheeks. Clearing his throat awkwardly, he forced himself to approach, his footsteps hesitant as he tried to think of something to say.
"Uh, hi," he muttered, mentally cursing himself for his lack of eloquence.
The girl glanced up at him, her eyes wide with surprise. "Oh, hi," she replied, a shy smile tugging at her lips. "I'm Y/N."
"Nagi," he responded, offering her a small smile of his own. "Nice to meet you."
And with that simple exchange, a connection was forged between them, one that neither of them could have predicted. As they stood there in the dappled sunlight, surrounded by the sounds of their new neighborhood, Nagi couldn't help but feel that this random Sunday had turned out to be anything but ordinary.

.Nagi returned home, the encounter with Y/N lingering in his mind like an echo that refused to fade. As he settled back into the comfort of his room, his phone buzzed, signaling an incoming call from Reo, his best friend. With a reluctant sigh, Nagi answered, his thoughts still consumed by the image of Y/N.
"Hey, Nagi, what's up?" Reo's voice sounded through the phone, laced with the familiar warmth of friendship.
Nagi's response was absent-minded, his attention divided between the conversation and the memory of Y/N's smile. He mumbled a few half-hearted replies, his mind elsewhere, until Reo finally bid him goodnight and ended the call.
Alone once more, Nagi attempted to distract himself by diving into a game of Fortnite, but his frustration only mounted as his thoughts continued to stray back to Y/N. With a frustrated growl, he tossed his controller aside, unable to shake the image of her from his mind.
He considered calling Reo to vent his frustrations, to confide in his best friend about the strange hold Y/N seemed to have over him. But as he reached for his phone, a sudden hesitation gripped him, and he hesitated, his finger hovering over the call button.
In the end, Nagi decided against it, the fear of sounding foolish outweighing his need for solace. Instead, he turned his attention back to the window, his gaze drifting idly across the street. That's when he saw her.
Y/N stood by her window, her silhouette illuminated by the soft glow of the setting sun. Nagi's breath caught in his throat as he watched her, the sight of her stirring something deep within him. She was trying on her school uniform, her movements hesitant yet purposeful as she adjusted the fabric, her face flushed with exertion.
Realizing that they attended the same school sent a jolt of excitement coursing through Nagi's veins. But as he continued to watch, a pang of guilt washed over him, a sense of intrusion creeping into his conscience. He quickly averted his gaze, cheeks burning with embarrassment as he realized the impropriety of his actions.
Closing the curtains with a swift motion, Nagi turned away, the memory of Y/N's silhouette burned into his mind like a brand. As he settled into bed, the image of her lingered like a ghost, haunting his thoughts and stirring emotions he had never known existed. And as sleep finally claimed him, Nagi couldn't help but wonder what the future held in store for him and the enigmatic girl next door.
