There was an odd tension between the two of us, we were both quiet and leaning away from eachother, he was supposed to be my step brother but he still felt like a stranger.

"I hope I didn't overstep..." He said keeping his gaze out of the window

"No um, not at all" I replied doing the same

"Trust me this is a much better drive than you would've had with those two"

The silent hum of the engine and scenery of the cityscape made this a calm drive

"How come I didn't see you on my first day at the penthouse?" I asked curious considering he only popped up today

"I was away for a chess tournament"

"Chess?" I asked taken aback, he didn't look like the type.

"Don't worry about it" He said smiling the other way

I was confused a bit, but since it was an awkward topic I didn't take it any further

"We should play sometime" I suggested, I used to play with my dad back in the day

He chuckled as if undermining my ability

"That's okay, I believe you, you're better okay?" He said extra calmly, this only upset me further

I had enough conversation with him for the night.

The way he spoke so slow and almost half asleep, the way he lounged into the chair at the restaurant, he had this know-it-all laid back attitude to him all the time.

I wasn't sure I was particularly fond of Axel to be honest.

Shifting my focus out the window I noticed we were going past the apartment

"Where are we going?" I asked

"Relax, we're going to a very special place, trust me"

"Don't tell me to relax" I cut

Axel put his hands in the air surrendering

It wasn't long before the car stopped alongside a lit up alley

Axel opened up his door getting out and holding out a hand for me

Reluctantly I took it and held my bag and dress down with my other hand.

We were standing in front of a large food truck, surrounding it were shuttered-down stores and a few picnic tables

No one was really out at this time

I crossed my arms over my chest half in fear

"Best schwarma in the city" Axel said walking in front of me towards the truck

It was very strange of him to bring us on this side quest. I took a deep breath before sitting at the nearest picnic table to wait for him to come back.

The alley was strangely aesthetic, string lights were hung up around the tables and on the truck, the surroundings all silent and dark in the moonlight, there was even a light tune humming guitar songs from inside the truck radio

Here I was with my...6th brother, he walked back with two schwarmas in his one hand, his walk was confident but his expression still unreadable.

He sat in front of me, handing me the schwarma and unwrapping his.

"Enjoy" He touched his wrap to mine as if to cheers

"Thanks" I said before taking a bite, I was pretty full from the restaurant already but, I didn't want to spoil this 'courtesy'

Truthfully the schwarma was amazing

"Holy shit, this is amazing" I said still chewing

"Yeah, yeah I told you so" Axel smiled back taking a bite of his own

"How did you even find this place?"

"Old ba-friend, old friend showed me the place" He stuttered

I didn't think much of it and we both kind of enjoyed being quiet and just enjoying the surroundings a bit, afterwards Axel called us another cab and we drove home with grease still on my hands.

Once we got to the door, Axel turned to face me.

"Let's not mention this to anyone okay?" He said before we opened the door

"Why?" I ask confused, it's not like we did anything wrong...right?

Axel held up his hand to my face suddenly and ever so softly rubbed his finger under my lip. I felt a chill run down my spine.

"You've got grease on your-"

Before he could finish the door flew open and there stood Carter already in his pajamas wearing a pair of black glasses

"Where have you two been? Ethan said you guys left right after them in a separate cab?"

"They were wasted Carter, I would never want my...dear sister to travel with a pair of idiots" He explained patting Carter on the shoulder and walking past him

Carter rolled his eyes and nodded for me to get in.

"What happened Yara?" Carter asked shutting the door behind me

"Well Axel-" I started, and by then Axel was already down the hall leaving to his room

"You know you have curfew? your dad's not here but I have to make sure we're all safe, especially since it's your first week here"

"Spare me the lecture Carter" I moaned already exhausted and ready to sleep after devouring that schwarma

"You and Axel are in the same grade so do me a favour and look out for eachother" He said

"Like we did tonight?" I ask cheerily

Carter shook his head in annoyance
"Like tonight but earlier" He said as he locked the door and patted me on the head.

"Goodnight" I said as he walked towards the stairs and I walked towards my room

When I got to my room I realized, I didn't have my bag with me.

"No!" I moaned facepalming
How could I lose my whole bag!

The last I remembered having it was at the picnic table by the foodtruck

I figured it was as good as gone by now so I decided to cut my losses and change into my pj's

Juli pranced into the room climbing in bed with me, easing my worry with her gentle purring
