AS the morning of Karva Chauth arrives, the Raj Haveli echoed
with banters and chanters of people in preparation to go to the
Mata mandir.

The chaos of the morning something entirely different, filled
with chaos and orders shouted.
Today everyone was skipping breakfast as the ladies had
their fast and the gents don’t want to trouble them.

The gents were also on fast and a surprise to their wives. The
surprise their wives know but acted otherwise, because it
happens every other year.

As for me and my siblings, we have decided to pick our meals
on our way to college and office.
The royal workers placed the samagri

(Samagri Means
Materials. The word “Samagri" is most of the times used when
you are talking about materials required for prayers, like herbs,
roots, and other natural ingredients)

securely in a big car by the except for the vermilion plate with me.

The Royal Guards clad in black suits with their earpieces and
royal batches stand attentively near the cars, where were a total
of three family cars while the rest of the SUVs.

My grandparents had one; our parents and uncle aunt were in
another. My father always preferred to drive whenever he could, and we siblings had one. We had decided we would drop the
youngsters off at their college on our way to the office.

As our cars ran through the road, the people walking on sidewalks bowed and waved in respect and the cars cleared our way noticing the shining royal batch on the hood of the cars in its own glory.

I turn a corner slowly as my eyes gaze a figure standing by
the stall of flowers and vermillion.

Despite being in a crowded place, the red suit with floral print,
wind navigating the flow of her hair, her face hidden from my
direct line.

But with no question that it was her!

My car’s tires made a screeching stop. Is she real? Or am I
dreaming?

My thoughts had me forcing the car’s door open in haste and
through the crowd knowing that my wait full of longing finally
ceases to end if that's really her. And I have no doubt she won't
be her.!

And the only way I would know answers to my questions.

Because I can recognize her even from miles, all my dreams consist of are her and only her in these past ten months.

How? I don’t know. I have only seen her once but I remember
her whole. How? I don’t know. But I want my answers.

Her thoughts had a hold on my memories like a vice.

I make my way between the people but before I could reach
her the Royal Guards interrupted me, forming their vice-like
shield around me making a barrier between the people and me.

The figure disappears from my sight making me halt and a hand on my shoulders had me turn abruptly, caught in my most vulnerable moments.

Reyansh took a step back before he could stop himself, his
hands rising in surrender for a second.

Darn!

"Bhai..?" Reyansh asked, his gaze filled with worry and confusion. I looked back at the stall, where I saw the figure but I didn’t saw her again.

'Was I hallucinating?' I believe I wasn't.

With a last look at the stall, shaking my head clearing my haze, I walk back towards my car when I saw the guard ready to pick the vermillion plate.

"Drop" My voice came out harsh, which I never intend.

Did just the thought of her spike my Heartbeat? When all I
have been doing every morning is heavy workout and even that
didn’t raised it and it was now running horse-miles.

The guard steps back with a hint of fear in the air. Holding the
vermillion plate in my hold I walked towards the steps of the
Temple. My family held questions in their gazes, but averting my
gaze I ascended the steps of the temple.

After all, what answer do I have? My mind seems too fazed
and confused and heart…racing. I took a deep breath to calm
me when a scent flooded my nostrils, sweet with a mixture of
rose and strawberries!

Reyansh came by my side followed by other family members, diverting my attention from the scent and I focus back on work at
hand.

The Royal Guards ascended with the prayer articles in their
holds as they followed after us, protecting us.

I should not focus on anything other than what we come here
for but my mind can’t seem to get the simple idea and the figure
was playing on a loop in my mind.

__________&&&✨

Naintara, being startled upon witnessing such a huge crowd
ascended the stairs, quickly.

When destiny was ready to grant them something more beautiful than what they had imagined, when it has finally decided to end their long lasting suffering of unfruitful longing, they were now just a few steps away from each other but too engulfed in their own, they didn't notice their other half whom they had longed for, for the past months.

Naintara's pallu waved in the air by the cool winds flowing,
with a prayer plate in hand, she ascended the stairs.

She looked just like the angel of his dreams, whose presence he wasn't aware of, yet.

Naintara reaching the top stair, now bent down to touch the
floor with her fingertips to receive the blessings of Mother Earth,
it's never a coincidence when Universe plays it’s magic!

And the thing is,
If they didn't notice, doesn't mean no one else did.
Naintara walked right by him towards the Main Mata idol while
Abhiveer stops in the presence of the head Priest.

"Hukum Sa," Abhiveer nods with a neutral feature.

______________🌟

TOUCHING my head to the
feet of the idol I prayed,

"The fast performed by many married women for the
longevity of their partner’s life and by unmarried women who
wish for a good husband, today I'm praying for the man who has
occupied my heart and my soul, for the unknown someone I
know nothing about, I pray wherever he is, he's healthy and
happy." Because I know the one you have chosen for me would
be the best.

Finishing my prayer and joining hands in front of Ma I got up
turning around just as I crash and collide into another person
causing what they held in their hold to crash down to the floor
with a thud and as everything turned into a dark red hue.

"Apologies, child, I didn't saw you," The priest said who
crashed into me.

"No worries, Priest uncle. It'll surely wash off." I said unsure,
dusting some of the color down my dress.

"Child, it is vermilion, the color of love. It won't wash off
easily.”

‘Its color, isn't it?’ I thought.

"On this occasion of Karva Chauth, the one she has chosen
for you will soon reach out to you." The priest said, looking that
at the idol.
