Velvet's POV:
The dim roar of the crowd enveloped Velvet as she sat backstage, outside the door of her dressing room. The show wasn't near its starting time yet, but the stands of the Rage Dome were pulsating with a sea of fans. As she surveyed her array of accessories, listening to the thousands of fans screaming her and her brother's names, a subtle pang of uncertainty gripped her, as it did before all of her shows. Would this be the night she fucked it all up? Would she or her brother ruin their hard-earned fame?
However, amidst the whirlwind of anxiety that occurred before every performance, Velvet's attention shifted to you. A composed and efficient assistant, you moved gracefully through the chaos, seamlessly handling every hiccup and ensuring that Velvet and Veneer appeared flawless.
Your ability to navigate the intricacies of Velvet's demanding world had not gone unnoticed. The way you moved with purpose, shoulders squared, eyes focused—the embodiment of calm in the midst of chaos—had earned Velvet's unspoken respect.
Since that vulnerable night on the couch a month ago, when Velvet had found solace in you after a heated confrontation, she was uncertain. Velvet was feeling emotions she had never had before. While she had had experience and fleeting encounters with other partners, this was lasting.
Yeah, at first it was fun to tease you, seeing you blush and try not to stare. Velvet did that with anyone beneath her, like it was a game. And besides, you were so cute. After the night at the club, Velvet's drunkenness had taken it a little too far, but you didn't shy away from the challenge. But then, she had blown up on you for that accidental picture.
You could have run, quit, reported Velvet, but you didn't do any of that. Instead, you fixed the situation with ease and comforted Velvet in her time of need, and Velvet had ruined it by walking away. Ever since that day, you had remained faithful. Attempting to make amends, Velvet had showered you with small gifts, pay increases, bonuses, and more - anything to keep you around. Kind words were not her forte, but she did know how to spend her money.
Tonight's show seemed destined for chaos. Wardrobe malfunctions, backstage squabbles, and technical glitches were occurring non-stop. Yet, with each crisis that reared its head, you emerged like an anchor, skillfully resolving issues and maintaining composed control.
Velvet couldn't deny the sense of comfort she found in your competence and care. A subtle warmth blossomed in her chest, and a blush across her cheeks. The more she observed you seamlessly weaving through challenges, the more Velvet grew to silently rely on your steady presence.
As you approached her, a hint of a smile played on Velvet's lips. "Smooth sailing tonight, ma'am," you remarked, an air of calm assurance in your voice.
Velvet nodded, her gaze lingering on your face. "You always manage to salvage the ship, Y/N. I don't know what I'd do without you."
You laughed, the sound echoing through the bustling backstage. Velvet thought you had a beautiful laugh. "Just doing my job, ma'am. Making sure everything runs like clockwork."
With that, you ran off, apparently chasing after someone who had the wrong headpieces in their hands. Velvet suddenly felt a pair of hands cover her eyes, and a loud "boo" came from behind her.
"Aah! Veneer! Don't do that!"
"Meh, I do what I want. But, I actually wanted to talk to you. It's about Y/N."Velvet's eyes rolled involuntarily at the mention of you. "What about her, Veneer?" she asked, her tone careful not to betray any emotion.
