As I woke up to the sound of my early alarm, the events of the previous night slowly came back to me. The meeting with Raffia, the events of the club, then what Velvet and I...did.
I turned to see Velvet still asleep beside me, her green hair fanned out on the pillow behind her. Despite the weight of recent events, there was a quiet beauty in the way she slept peacefully.
Gently brushing a strand of hair from Velvet's face, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of emotions. Last night showed me a side of Velvet that I hadn't seen before. She was violent, a little cruel. While we had made up in the end, I was worried about her. If this is how she reacts to small things, who knows what could happen if something more extreme happened. I hated to see Velvet hurting and reacting in ways that reflected her own pain.
As Velvet began to stir, her eyes meeting mine, I couldn't help but speak the thoughts that had been swirling in my mind, not even bothering with a 'good morning.'
"Velvet, last night... it was intense," I began, my voice soft.
She nodded, her gaze searching mine. "Yeah, it was. Again, I don't know what came over me...I'm so sorry."
"No, no. Don't apologize for that part. I enjoyed being with you, but I hated seeing you in so much pain. The way you reacted, it hurt," I confessed, my fingers gently tracing circles on the back of her hand.
Velvet sighed, her expression thoughtful. "I know, Y/N... I let my insecurities and past experiences dictate my actions. It wasn't fair to you."
I nodded in understanding, our hands finding each other and our fingers interlocking under the blanket. "Velvet, I care about you deeply. I want to be with you, but I need to know that we can face small challenges together without it tearing us apart. Next time you're worried, just talk to me. Listen to me. And if you want to act like that in the bedroom again...let's make sure you're not actually angry with me."
She looked at me, a smile covering her face. "You're right, Y/N. Orchid, those past memories...they all just flooded back. I felt like I needed to literally claw onto you to keep you from leaving me. I don't want to lose you."
"Let's promise each other," she said, her voice a whisper, "that we'll work through our issues, that we'll communicate, even when it's hard. I want to be better. For us."
I smiled, the sincerity of her words resonating with me. "I promise, Velvet. I want this, too. Let's navigate this together."
She grinned, an idea seeming to light up in her head. "Now, what do you say we go take a shower together...you know, to freshen up?"
I laughed with her, pulling her into a hug before going to start the water.
Velvet and I were seated at the large breakfast table in the penthouse, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filling the air. We were both wrapped in luxurious silk pink robes (mine was a thoughtful gift from Velvet, of course), our hair still damp from the shower. I looked out the large windows down onto the city, watching as the world woke up.
As we sipped our coffee, Velvet's eyes met mine, and she gave me a reassuring smile. "You know, Y/N, I'm glad we can talk about things. I've never talked with anyone who just...listened to me without getting angry. Besides Veneer, of course. But he doesn't count."
Just then, a realization struck me, and I asked, "By the way, where is Veneer? He wasn't here last night, and I didn't see him when I woke up."
Velvet's grin took on a mischievous edge. "Oh, he sent a message saying he's out with Kid Ritz. They've been gone all night."
