The bright city lights slowly faded as Velvet's driver took us into a more secluded area. Suddenly, we stopped in front of an abandoned building.
"Here? Are you sure we're in the right spot?"
"(Y/N), by this time, you should know better than to question me." She punctuated this statement with a flip of her hand, as if I was the dumbest person alive. I sighed and watched the driver open the door for me. As I was exiting, Velvet quickly grabbed my wrist, holding me tight, her ruby nails digging into my skin.
"(Y/N), don't fuck it up."
I gulped and nodded, and she let me go. I exited the vehicle, thanked the driver, and walked to the door of the rundown building. I knocked in the rhythm that Velvet taught me and was greeted quite quickly by a huge security guard.
"Ticket?" he asked, rather rudely.
I pulled the ticket out of the clutch I was borrowing from my boss and shakily handed it to him. He then nodded and let me in. I followed him into a dark, dingy hallway that looked nothing like the site of an exclusive party.
Was Velvet setting me up? Is this all some elaborate prank? Am I about to be kidnapped?
Right before I turned heel, cushy assistant job be damned, the guard opened a nondescript door. I was almost rendered senseless with bright lights, music, and a huge crowd of people. Everyone was partying and laughing.
The transition from the gritty hallway to the vibrant spectacle before me was nothing short of surreal. I took a deep breath, trying to shake off the initial shock, and stepped into the lively scene. The music pulsed through the air, and the atmosphere was charged with energy.
As I navigated through the crowd, I overheard snippets of conversations, catching glimpses of influential figures and rising stars in the industry, but no sight of the Sage Boys. Velvet's warnings and tips echoed in my mind, urging me to stay focused on the task at hand.
I approached the bar, ordering a drink to maintain the appearance of a carefree attendee (as Velvet told me to do). The bartender, a sharply dressed man with a dark, unsettling smile, regarded me with a knowing look.
"Newcomer, huh? Enjoying the party?"
I nodded with a smile, playing my part as convincingly as possible. I ordered and leaned against the bar.
"So, what brings a pretty thing like you to a place like this?" The bartender's gaze held a hint of mischief as he started fulfilling my order.
"Just thought I'd check out the scene, you know? Heard this party was the place to be," I replied, doing my best to keep my tone light and casual.
He leaned against the bar, his eyes lingering on mine, then dropping to the low cut of my dress and back up again. "Well, you picked the right night to drop by. Things can get pretty wild around here." His grin widened, and I couldn't help but feel a twinge of discomfort.
As he prepared my drink, his casual banter took an unexpected turn. "You know, I couldn't help but notice you the moment you walked in. You're beautiful, you've got a mysterious vibe around you."
I forced a small laugh, trying to deflect his attention. "Oh, I'm just here to enjoy the party. Nothing too mysterious, I assure you."
He chuckled, a low and somewhat suggestive sound. "I don't know, it's intriguing, I want to know more about you. How about we meet up after this pa-"
My discomfort grew, and I subtly shifted away from the bar and interrupted him. I couldn't let this interaction jeopardize the mission Velvet entrusted to me.
