Beluga

Beluga sat in her cave, tapping her talons quietly upon the stone floor. She was finally alone, free from the loud and obnoxious Thunder Academy students. She groaned inwardly as Dreamspeaker, one of the most bubbly students in the academy came trotting in, a little bounce in each step. "Hey, Beluga," she called cheerfully.

Dreamspeaker gave Beluga a wide grin.

Why do dragons keep bothering me? Do I need to paint a big sign that says "leave me alone" and hang it on my neck? Geez!

Dreamspeaker blinked thoughtfully. "It's okay to say hello, you know," she growled softly, looking amused.

Beluga snorted. "I have no interest in talking to you. Goodbye." I don't need a friend. Go talk to someone else. She let out a low, non-threatening growl which startled Dreamspeaker a little bit and the NightWing took a step back.

"Go away," Beluga growled. "Please? Or do I have to leave myself?" I don't want to hang out with you. I just want to be alone.

"Don't leave," Dreamspeaker said softly. "I just--I thought you might have wanted to walk with me to history?" She blinked hopefully.

"Oh." Beluga hesitated, her voice echoing in her head. I could try to be friendlier.... The idea sprouted in her mind, and almost immediately shriveled. Dreamspeaker was looking a little dejected, and Beluga tried to look a little less intimidating. Just this once. But she better not try to become my best friend or something, because I don't need one. Ever.

"I suppose I can walk with you," she muttered, getting up.

Dreamspeaker lifted her head, seeming as if she might explode. "Thanks! I'm not that bad of company," she added quietly as they made their way down the hallway. "You might actually grown to like me?"

"Funny," Beluga responded blankly, though she pondered the thought. Maybe I do have some friends here?
