That night Mack and Laramie had a conversation about how she loves Ryan but also likes Walker. Laramie told her that what she feels makes her normal. The next morning Laramie and Mack climbed out of Mack's truck. They snuck back inside and got ready while everyone else woke up and got ready. They all drank coffee and went out and did their work. Its Friday so they had the weekend off. Later that day Mack's favorite man arrived to the ranch. As he got.out of his truck Mack stood there with the biggest smile on her face.
Travis: Well if it isn't my favorite Bronx rider
Mack: Howdy Travis
The two walked up to each other and hugged.
Mack: What did we do to earn you here today
Travis: More like what did I do to be graced by your presence
Travis unloaded his trailer and the people he came with all helped and soon they were inside the ring riding. Travis talked to Teeter and told her to stop telling g people she was from Texas then he we t back to doing his little tricks. Travis made his way over to Rip and talked to him for a bit. The next few days Travis.and his friemds.showed.off their horses. Jimmy and Mack sat on her tailgate and talked for a bit until John walked up to them.
John: You broke your word to me Jimmy
Jimmy: I'm sorry
John: You broke your word
Jimmy: I'm sorry, sir
John: Tell you what, I'm so... I'm so goddamn tired of being right, I told you this would happen and what did I say next...
Jimmy: Look please don't fire me, sir, alright I can still be useful, there's all sorts
John: How, how can you be useful, you can't ride, you can't lift anything, but in a few months you will and you'll think you have cheating fate all figured out and you'll doit again and I WI t watch it happen
Jimmy: Please
John: Please*questioning*
Jimmy: Mr. Dutton please
John: What do you think I'm going to do kick you off the ranch, I made a promise to your grandfather, and unlike you I keep my word, but I'm done trying to make a man out of you Jimmy, I'm leaving that to someone else's
Mack: Who
John: Its the last favor I call in for you, you screw this up and you're on your own, get packed up Jimmy
Jimmy: Where am I going
John: Travis is pulling out tomorrow, you're going with him
Jimmy: Where
John: Where cowboys are invented and if those boys can't make one out of you, you weren't meant to be one, I'm sorry Jimmy
Mack walked away while they continued to talk. She knew that Jimmy didn't want to leave and that it would hurt Mia when he left. The next morning Mia, Jimmy, and Mack were talking about Jimmy leaving today. Mia and Jimmy started arguing so Mack walked away. Travis brought a team with him. The next day John, Rip, and !Mack all.said goodbye to Travis and Jimmy along with Travis' team. Travis left and Mia found out that Jimmy was going to four sixes. Everything carried on like a normal day at the ranch. Mack took this as a chance to sit on her tailgate and drink a beer while she embraces the peace and quiet.
Walker: Thought I'd find you out here
Mack: You should go back inside to Laramie
Walker: Mack...
Mack: Walker I said you should go back inside to your girlfriend
Walker: Fine
Walker went back inside but not before warning someone else or a few others about the broken girl on the tailgate that sat in her vulnerable state.
Ryan: Hey...
Mack: Hi
Lloyd: You ok
Mack: Daddy will you let us be for a moment ill have him get you when we're done talking
Lloyd: Ok
Lloyd went back into the bunk house leaving Ryan and Mack by themselves. Ryan moved the beers so that he was beside her. He pulled her in and they started talking.
Ryan: I'm not gonna sit here and tell you what everyone else has told you but just know that I'm here and I know you're broken, and I know that you're in your vulnerable state right now but trust me no matter what ill always be here
Mack just nodded. Mack knew she loved this man and that no matter what she would even love him if he had fallen for another girl. She knew that no matter what Ryan would always be by her side when she needed him. They sat there for a bit before Mack sat up and looked at him.
Ryan: Ill go get him
Mack: Thank you
Ryan hopped off her tailgate. He looked at the girl he's fallen for and kissed her on the forehead before he walked away. He walked inside and nodded to Lloyd.
Lloyd: Ryan is taking my place I need to go check up on my daughter
Lloyd walked out closing the door behind him and walking over to his daughter's truck where he found her on her third beer.
Mack: I love him
Lloyd: I know you do kid
Mack: It feels wrong
Lloyd: Yeah it does but you and I both know that if that was another woman and Lee was in your situation you'd want him to move on wouldn't you
Mack: Yeah
Lloyd: And he wants the same for you, for you to move on and be happy
Mack: I know and I will
Lloyd: Its been hell of a year sweetheart
Mack: Yeah tell me about it
Lloyd: Well we better go to bed
Mack: Bed is boring
Lloyd: I know but we have work tomorrow
Lloyd helped her down and grabbed the three empty bottles. Mack had her arm around Lloyd's shoulders as she swayed into the bunk house a little tipsy. Lloyd helped her into bed and then threw the bottles away.
Ryan: How'd it go *whispering*
Lloyd: You break her heart and Ill break your legs *whispering back*
Ryan: Yes sir
Everyone else went to bed. The next morning they all woke up and did their jobs finishing before sunset and hanging out. Mack grabbed her appaloosa and got it ready for a ride. She turned on the lights that lit up the ring. She walked out To the middle of the ring.This is the appaloosa that she took from her mother's ranch. She made sure she had her trick saddle on her and then she was ready.
