Dazai's POV:

"Oh great, more ability users to snack on!" the tall man croaks menacingly. He looks rather bored, as if he was the one who had escaped death many times.

"Oh please, we'll see where your cockiness goes when we defeat you!" Chuuya snorts disbelievingly. I nudged him in the arm, hard, and he turns his ferocious glare to me and opens his mouth to start yapping angrily.  Before he can start the tall man creates an explosion, nearly blowing his hat away.

"That mother—" Chuuya starts yelling, but I place my arm around his waist to pull him back.

"We don't have our abilities right now!" I hiss. "As much as I admire your will to commit suicide, we have to get out now." I can feel his muscles tense, and I remove my arms from around his waist reluctantly. Reluctantly because I need him to help me get out of this building, not because... well, I need a woman to commit double suicide with me anyway.

"Whatever, I'm not getting out because of you, I'm leaving so we can get the gem in one piece!" Chuuya growls as he adjusts his hat and starts walking through a separate path.

"Aww don't be shy, come and fight me!" the man croaked. I could tell Chuuya wants to run up to him and start smacking some sense into him, but he just takes a deep breath and continues on. I run behind him and look back at the tall man making new explosions in an attempt to kill us. Luckily, we reach the stairs before he can cause any serious damage.

"Why didn't we take the elevator?" Chuuya's tone is pissing me off.

"Dumbāss." I say this loud enough for him to hear over the explosions. He spares me a furious glance.

"Shut up, mackerel," he snaps at last before we finish the race to the top of the stairs. Before us was an empty hallway.

We run down, our shoes clacking against the ground as we reach the next elevator. It's an awkward silence, before the elevator music saves me. I just pray we won't get stuck again.

"Hey wait..I think I feel something," Chuuya says suspiciously.

"Oh? What could Chuuya be feeling?" I tease him, somewhat as a retort to his previous words.

"Shut up, I think I got my—" Chuuya gets cut off as he flips upside down and onto the elevator roof.

"Finally, our goddamn abilities came back," he said as he flips down back to me. I create a blue orb with my hands and smile as it produces by my will.

"Now we don't need to run away from ability users!" I say with a jolly tone.

"Whatever," Chuuya marches out of the elevator as the door slides open. I smile as he walks out. I don't know why, but I immediately turn my grin upside down and walk behind him.

Chuuya's POV:

As I walked out, three more people rushed forward. "Halt!" one of the people yell.

They shoot at me with their guns, and I easily deflect them and shoot it back, leaving them lying dead on the ground with bullets pierced through their eye sockets. Why does my power seem more effective now? Is it because of the gem?

I continue walking, until I hear Dazai's voice.

"Chuuya, it's a trap." he speaks as if he knows everything.

"Huh? And how do you know?" I grumble, while I desperately hope I'm not wrong again.

"Well it was quite obvious, if you used your brain. The men dead on the ground were obviously protecting and hiding another door which we didn't notice. We will die if we go where you're going," Dazai says like he just made a scientific breakthrough.

"Whatever," I mumble while I walk toward the other door I somehow missed.

He follows me, and the tension around us crackles like lightning. When is this going to be over? I hate this. I hate him. I hope this place breaks down after we're done.

But ahead of us was our biggest challenge yet.

A giant octopus-like creature hisses at us, but instead of tentacles, it had barbed swords at the end stained with the blood of previous challengers. Dripping green goo fell onto the ground, and it sizzled in a dangerous green gloop puddle.

Behind it was the key, but the key to what? The gem? The cabin door conveniently placed above my head?

"Ew," I say with a disgusted look spread on my face. This enemy was definitely gonna be hard, but does it have to look like that?

"You distract it. I'll go get the key," Dazai says commandingly.

"As if I'd let you take off without me!" I launch forward, taking three bullets out of my pocket

"You're gonna get us killed, which I wouldn't mind but we need to get the gem," Dazai snaps. I glare at him and continue to spontaneously attack the enemy.

The octopus bellows, the worst sound I have ever heard in my life. It was disgustingly raspy and sounds strangely like a grumpy old woman. She turns to me and starts to slither forward with her incredibly goopy, slimy tentacles.

She throws one of her swords at me with perfect aim, and I try to use my ability to deflect it, but as it nears me, I feel it falter. Is the goop somehow interfering with my ability? I leap aside, but just barely as it scrapes the shoulder of my vest. Cold air rushes into my body from the hole, but it only touched the fabric, thankfully.

Dazai then attempts to near the octopus lady and nullify her ability, but a rampage of goo escapes her hand, sending Dazai to scramble all over the floor. Both our abilities are futile if we keep getting hit by this goo.

The octopus lady lunges forward in my direction, completely ignoring the insolently tall man right beside her.  I take out my knife and deflect two swords from spearing my face.

"Watch out!" I hear Dazai call to me as the wall in front of me slides open, revealing ten armed people about the same age as me. They look strong, but also average ability users. It is obvious what their purpose is, to distract us. Without the octopus lady, Dazai and I can defeat them easily, but it will be hard to manage both. After all, I didn't expect them to stand there and let us kill them.

"We should kill the ten men first," I say, getting ready to attack.

"You finally said something smart!" Dazai sneers. I glare at him once more, but I have no time to make a smart retort as the men come rushing at us.

I fire a couple bullets at the first bunch of insolent idiots. To my great surprise, a sword comes flying from my right and deflects the bullets. The octopus lady saved them, it's getting hard to defeat them.

Meanwhile, Dazai is struggling with the octopus lady. He isn't a fighter; at least, he's more of a planner. Not that we had the time to strategize anyway.

I just wonder how we're going to get out of this.
