A/N!!! I was editing a bit of my story and realize how quickly it jumps into it. So here's a prologue for you all, I apologize for how short it is.

————

The sound of my alarm filled the still room, jolting me out of my sleep. Lazily, I opened my eyes to check the time. 5:30. With a heavy groan I shut off my alarm, and rolled over. Another few minutes passed before I managed to haul myself out of my covers and off the bed. My joints popped as I stretched, the consequences of joining the military at 18. Glad to be out of there.

My morning was engrained into my brain by now. 5:45, shower. 6:00, get dressed. 6:10, get ready for the day. 6:45, be out the door. This has been my routine for the past 4 years since I'd finished my contract. So I did just that.

7:20 AM

I pulled the door to my building open, stepping inside. The temperature change was dramatic, being so much warmer inside.

"Good morning, Y/n." I turned my attention towards the familiar voice, sending the man a smile.

"Good morning, Hunter. How's the wife?" I asked, handing him my verification card. He took it with a smile, glancing over it for a moment before handing it back.

"She's doing great, I think she secretly loves being a mother." He said with a soft chuckle. "She always said she never wanted kids.. yet she loves our son."

"It's hard not to love that kid. Tell your wife I said hi." With one more smile, I walked away and up the stairs. Up two flights, down the hall and to the right was my office. I shoved the key into the lock, twisting it open. The first thing I did was light my candle, I was known for my office always smelling of something sweet.

I sat down in my chair and opened my laptop, signing in. My computer chimed with 20+ emails from this past weekend, all from clients trying to reach my boss. I couldn't help but roll my eyes as I forwarded at least 10 of them to him. Not even 5 minutes later, I hear a knock on my door.

"Come in." I didn't look up from my computer as my door opened, my boss walking through.

"I want this read by Wednesday." He said, dropping a thick stack of papers on my desk. "And don't forget we have that trip coming up, I nee-"

"You need me there, I know Mr. Dickson." I looked up at him, giving a slight smile. "I've already booked the tickets for us, and I'll have a room booked by tonight." His facial expression hardened a bit before he nodded. Without a word, he waved before exiting the room. I'd been working under him for the past few years, despite his rough exterior I knew he enjoyed my company. And I enjoyed his.

12:36 PM

My phone rang, scaring the daylights out of me in line. I scrambled to grab my cellphone from my pocket, quickly answering it. My boss on the other line was asking what was taking so long.

"I know I know. I'll be there, my order should be next." I explained, being beckoned up to the counter. "Gotta go." I hung up the phone, giving the cashier my order. The lady was kind, apologizing for the wait. I could tell they were understaffed. It only took about 15 minutes to get my order done, some people were annoyed with how quickly I'd gotten it, given I ordered after them.

I was back at the building within 10 minutes, walking through the door with my bag in my hand, headphones in my ears. The moment I stepped through the door, my heart dropped for an unknown reason. Everything seemed fine, people running around trying to meet their deadlines. Nothing out of the ordinary.. so I chose to ignore the feeling. I went about my business normally.

At 1:00 my office phone rang, I answered it on the second ring. Before I could greet whoever was on the other line, I heard frantic voices.

"Lock your doors, now!" And then the line was cut. I blinked in confusion, bringing my eyes up to my door. Setting the phone down, I made my way over with shaky hands. That pit in my stomach had returned. Reaching for the doorknob, I twisted it open and peeked out. Silence.. not a single sound. Must've been a prank call. That wasn't unusual here.

Then the alarms rang.
