Eden
I felt uneasy with August being around.
It's been a few weeks now, and August has been sleeping a lot, and when he isn't sleeping he's drinking.
Zane's been very patient with him, which surprised me, considering their past.
But I also realized that Zane and August were best friends from early childhood, and Zane is a fucking saint or some shit.
Carter fucked up once and I dropped him immediately, despite all of his attempts to come back.
Well, I guess he goes by Drew now.
I sighed as I laid in bed, holding the edge of the blanket.
Zane is out, Quinn is with Trevor and Simon, leaving me alone with August downstairs. Or at least he was until he came upstairs to the bathroom.
He's practically moved in at this point.
It's not as bad as it seems though. August seems to have changed drastically after the last guy.
He's not cocky and rude anymore. He's just quiet, timid, and skittish.
I got up eventually and headed downstairs for a snack.
August was sitting by the window in the kitchen, staring outside blankly. He was absentmindedly running a finger over his lip where it had been busted a couple weeks ago.
I didn't say anything and instead just went about my business.
What am I supposed to say even? He doesn't like me, and I don't know him.
"You want anything?" I asked while I stood by the pantry.
"Huh?" August looked over, finally taking notice of me. "Oh, uh, no thanks," he shook his head.
I hummed in response, grabbing myself a pack of gummies that I knew were for Quinn.
"You okay?" I asked, side-stepping Velvet as she planted herself at my feet when she heard the crinkle of the gummy wrapper.
"Uh, yeah, I guess," August nodded.
He didn't sound sure at all.
"You don't have to be nervous around me," I shrugged. "I'm not Zane...or Beck, I don't punch people for less than one reason,"
August scoffed. "Knowing Zane he'd punch me for you,"
I rolled my eyes. "Has Zane ever laid hands on someone he cares about?"
August shook his head. "Closest he's ever come to it is us wrestling when we were like ten,"
"What was he like as a kid?" I asked.
"Dumb," August replied, a little smile tugging on his lips. "We both were,"
I nodded along.
"His dad left his mom for Beck's mom and it caused Zane to go through this phase of being an absolute shithead for years."
I can't imagine Zane being a rebellious kid.
"We used to skip school and get high in the woods, or we'd skip school and go fuck our girlfriends at the time." August scoffed. "That's how he ended up with two daughters early on,"
"You have any kids other than Quinn?"
"Yeah, we don't talk though...his mom completely turned him against me. He'd be...twenty three?" August smiled sadly. "I see pictures sometimes, Zane used to share them with me,"
"I wish I could go back sometimes," August sighed.
I nodded.
"I would do so much differently,"
