DAISY

I imagined that, after twenty-four hours of straight up humiliation, the universe would sympathize with my situation and give me a hand. Silly me.

After losing my job and my boyfriend, I was still forced to watch Cliff bring Margot to our apartment.

Or his. Whatever.

As far as I'm concerned, they could've sex in every corner of that apartment.

The worst part — Guy Carver saw it all. It was so embarrassing. We didn't talk on the way to my truck. I was too ashamed to say anything and he was probably wondering what the hell was my problem.

Guy offered to buy me a coffee. I asked if he would pay, because I had no dignity left, so to hell with it.

Minutes later, we were sitting in a fancy cafeteria, staring at the menu. There was a salmon-egg sandwich that cost twenty-five dollars. That was enough for me to close the menu.

"So, your boyfriend..." he asked.

On the way here, Guy put on his mirrored sunglasses again. I could see the image of my messy hair and puffy face in the reflection of his lenses.

"I caught him and Margot together." I explained.

"He's an idiot" he said, crossing his arms behind his head.

I was surprised by this statement. I always thought Guy was kind of the man that only supported other men. He was in the headlines every day with a different girl on his arm, it would not surprise me if he was a cheater like Cliff.

"It's the number one rule: if you're cheating on someone, never make both people be in the same place at the same time."

Oh, there he is.

"You clearly know a lot about this."

He smiled a seductive, womb-destroying smile.

I tried not to look at his lips, because, wow, those lips were so damn charming. Believe me I was not the first person to say that. That was Miranda Kerr on the Ellen Degeneres show. Who was Daisy Lynton to say otherwise?

After what Cliff did to me, I would say yes to the question Guy asked me a few days ago and let everything out in any gossip site for Cliff to see.

Damn it.

That wasn't me.

I couldn't lie to myself. I was hurt. It wouldn't be one night stand with Guy Carver that would change the fact that I hadn't been enough to keep Cliff by my side.

"I've never had a girlfriend," he took off his glasses to look at me "Because I know what an asshole I am and I know I wouldn't be a good boyfriend."

"Cliff was different" I said, running my finger over the embroidered cloth on the table. "It was his first slip-up. As far as I know."

"How can you still be defending that man? He brought a woman to your apartment!" Guy broke his pose and lifted his body forward.

"His apartment," I corrected.

"It doesn't matter. He sucks. You shouldn't waste your time thinking about him."

"You've never been in a relationship, so you can't understand the situation I'm going through right now, okay? We had a seven-year relationship." I said, holding his gaze. "Anyway, forget about it. Let's get back to your problem."

I didn't feel like listening to Guy's ted talk about how a fake marriage would benefit us, but I needed to take my mind off the whole thing with Cliff. Thank God men love to talk about themselves.
