"Dominic Romano. I've been expecting you." My voice is cold and dark. I stand in his bedroom. It's pitch black in here. My knife is cold against my hand. The gun strapped to my leg is calling me. I can't. He needs to suffer.
My husband was shot in f...

...time skip two weeks later...
"Princess?" I heard Dominic's voice echo through Mela's house. I had a key and couldn't stay in that hotel anymore. I'm sat in the bay window looking over her land. She lived in the countryside. It's very peaceful.
"I'm in here," I call back. My tea is cold now. It's been two weeks. Ana still hasn't woke up. I've not been sleeping. Dommy tried to make me, but it never works.
He walks into the room, "Do you want to come with me to the store?" He put a hand on my shoulder. I nod and stand. I visited Ana yesterday, and I wanted to go again today. Dominic said it wasn't good for me to see her like that. I don't think he knows she isn't the only person in my life i have seen dying in a hospital bed.
"Can we stop and see Ana before we come back?" I look to him with pleading eyes. He sighs and nods. I let out a breath of relief.
...later at 1 a.m....
Something is ringing. "Dommy turn it off." I say. I'm groggy. I was able to sleep some. He just groans and rolls closer to me. I sit up squinting. My phone. It's ringing. Shit. I jump out of bed and run over to it. I pick up almost immediately. "Hello?" Please let it be the hospital telling me she is alright.
"Ms. Carter, Ana has woken up and is asking for her Mom." Ana's nurse says through the phone. My breath stopped in my throat.
"Andy, come back." Dominic mumbles from the bed. I walk over and shove him off. "Bitch," he stands up and puts his hands on his hips. He looks like my mother when she would lecture me.
"Yes, I will be there shortly. Please tell Ana I'm on my way." Dominic's eyes widen. He finds his sweats as we both hurry to get dressed, and to the hospital.
We rush inside and the nurse at the front desk takes us up to Ana's room. I stand shocked in the doorway. She really is awake. "Mommy?" Her eyes are soft. They are green. My breath hitches. I rush to her bedside and hug her. My baby.
"Baby, I'm so sorry." I hold her close to me. Her little arms wrap around me.
"It's ok mommy, there isn't anything you could have done." She smiles at me. She is perfect. "Is Nana Mela with you?" She has hope in her eyes. My heart breaks. I have to tell her she is dead.
"Baby, I-" I look over at Dominic who stood against the doorframe. "She died in surgery." My voice shook some. I saw the pain on her face. Tears slipped down her cheeks. I felt tears prick my eyes. I pulled her back to my chest.
"Mommy, I don't want her to be dead." She cried. Oh honey. Nobody wants her dead.
"I know sweetie." I pet her hair soothingly. After a little while she calms down. "Do you want to meet somebody?" I smile at her. She nods her head. From what I remember she loved meeting new people. I wave Dominic to come closer. "This is my friend, Dominic, but I call him Dommy." She smiles. She has a tooth missing.
"Hi Dommy, I'm Anastasia, but mommy calls me Ana." She smiles at him.
"Well it's nice to meet you Ana." He smiles at her. I felt his hand on my back.
"Mommy? Where am I going to live?" She scrunched her eye brows together.
I give her a grin. "You're going to come love with me." She looks at me.
"I thought it wasn't safe?" She said quietly. That's why she had never lived with me before.
"It's safe now baby, I pinky promise." She looks up at me and laughs. I love her laugh. I could listen to that sound forever. I remember when I would visit her and she would chase me through the fields. We would play for hours. My little baby.
"Does that mean we can have sleepovers again?" She said hopefully. I laugh.
"Of course. As many as you want." She smiles again.
...days later when a they go home...
We sat on my couch. Ana was tired. She didn't sleep well last night. Later today she is going to get to meet everybody. "Mom?"
"Yes honey?" I look done at her sitting next to me.
"What is everyone like?" She looked like she had been picturing them. She has seen the various pictures of us around the house.
"Your sister Lucy, she is the kindest person you could ever meet. She loves puppies like you. She loves to bake and help me out with work. Your brother Andrew, he is really funny. He likes to make people laugh all the time. He has the kind of smile that make people want to smile." She smiles about that.
"I'm excited to meet them. What about Nat and Ivan?" She looks at a picture of them. Hanging on the wall. They were wrestling with me and we all were laughing. Dante had taken that picture.
"Nat, she loves to dance. She is very brave. She helped take care of me when I was sick. She can be sneaky, but the good kind." I smile thinking about the last time we probables Dante. "Ivan, he likes to play card games. He is very good at them. We have family game night, and he and o always win."
"I am going to win now too," she laughed. "What about Alek and aunt Vera?"
"Oh, your aunt Vera, she is an amazing singer. She will break out into song, and dance on my bed with me in it. She is my best friend." I shake my head talking about Vera. We grew up together. We say we are each other's soulmate. "Now, Alek, he is very clingy. He loves to follow me around. He is very funny. Sometimes he will jump on top of me and steal my food." She raises her eyebrows.
"How dare he? Food is not something you should take from somebody," she shakes her head and smacks her lips. I let out a laugh. We sit in silence for a while.
"Mommy? Who is the man in the photos you smile at?" My breath hitched. I haven't talked about Dante much since he died.
"That was my husband. His name was Dante. He died almost a year ago." She gasped and grabbed my hand.
"I'm sorry mom," she looked at pictures of us sleeping in the couch. I love that picture. He had his mouth open like and idiot and I had my head thrown back sleeping. "What was he like?" She asked that so quietly I almost didn't hear it.
"Well," I take a deep breath. "He was the best. He was like the sunshine on a cold day. He would eat ice cream with me at 3 in the morning. He would go to the park and play on the swings. We would have picnics, and he would feel the geese. They would chase him. He was the best. I loved him very much." I smile at her.
"I want to have a Dante one day," I kiss her head. I wish I still had mine.
"I hope you do to," she falls asleep for a little then we make dinner together.
"Mom, I'm home." I hear Andrew's voice call out from the front door.
I look down at Ana, "Do you want to go great him?" I smile. She kids her head fast. We rush and greet him at the door. Andrew pauses when he sees her. I told them about her.
"She looks so much like you," he smiles at her and kneels down to hug her. Lucy walked in right behind him with Nat. They smile at her.
"Hi, I'm Ana, " she tells them. The hug her. She leads them all into the living room. "Mommy and I made dinner."
"Really? What did you make?" Lucy looks so happy seeing her. This night will be a lot of fun. I hope Ana loves everybody.
"We made pasta, it was my Nana's recipe." She tells them. I hear her talking about wanting a puppy. She can't stop talking about getting a puppy. Christmas is in month. I've already got plans with a friend. She is going to get a puppy.
