Now, this is a story all about how

My life got flipped-turned upside down

And I'd like to take a minute

Just sit right there

I'll tell you how I became the...

Fiancé of my enemy, the Emperor???

—————

Life can really come at you, fast and hard. One minute you're on the beach, playing in the sand, and the next you're in the middle of a war with a large empire, barely surviving.

I am the Princess of this little island. The Kingdom of Kumo, the island being Kumogakure, is a proud Kingdom of mostly quirk users. This Kingdom has been around for ages and was usually at peace with all surrounding empires and other kingdoms, until the loss of the great
King Kisuke and Queen Yoruichi. Years after their passing, and the trade treaty they made coming to the end of its term, the Icarus Empire decided to turn its back on my Kingdom.

Someone should have reminded them of the story of Icarus and about flying too close to the sun. Although in this case, they flew too close to lightning.

—————

I am Princess O'Kira Shihoin. Daughter of Queen Kirara and King Enjiro. Sister of Crown Prince O'jiro and Prince O'kino. Granddaughter of the great King and Queen, formerly mentioned.

Being a Princess has many positives, but also just as many negatives. I am expected to be perfect at all times and never make any mistakes. I am expected to always be there to take care of and protect my people. I am expected to do exactly as I am told by my parents, the King and Queen, and their word is law. When I was younger, before mine and my brothers' quirks manifested, I had a normal childhood ( or at least as normal as can be for royals at least). I got to play and explore and see every inch of this beautiful island I call home. Every flower, tree, wave, nook, and cranny I explored. It was a humid place that never got too cold. The people mostly wore their skin out to account for the typical high temps to be able to catch the breezes of wind. While non-residents of the island found the clothing choices of the Kumo people to be too revealing and not modest enough, the residents were too busy trying not to overheat to care.

My typical attire as the princess consisted of a gold crown, some sort of strapless top or corset to cover my bust, long puffy or flowwy sleeves, and a skirt with slits to expose the sides my legs. I needed 24/7 access to the various sharp weapons I had hidden underneath clothes and the slits in the skirt also made for ease of access to be to fight whenever needed. This attire is only suitable for peace times, though. There isn't much to talk about or explain with the war armor. Silver is silver, swords are swords, and quirks are quirks.

I sighed, taking a quick sweep of the field in front of me. "Looks clear to me, oniisan. Wanna take a snack break?"

My brother, O'jiro looked up at the sky then over where I was standing and shrugged, "A snack or two couldn't hurt."

We had advanced pretty far into enemy territory, the land of the Icarus Empire, and were in a small forrest, taking cover in the shade and protection of the trees. It was my brothers, myself, and two other shinobi that tagged along that also had speed abilities. While the empire may have many knights and ships, we have the better trained fighters which is arguably better, considering how long we've been holding our own in the war so far. Our only slow approaching downfall was that we relied mostly on trade for our food and other various goods required to survive. The biggest one being.... Drumroll please.... Can you guess?

Weapons!

Which you need a good quantity of in the middle of a war.

Guess who makes the best quality weapons on this side of the earth?

Take another guess!

The infamous and currently most hated (by my people of course) Empire. The Icarus Empire. See the dilemma?

I reached into my small pouch, tucked between my armor and my stomach to pull out some small snacks to share with the men around me. We all savored the bites and tried to regain our breathes since we still had a long way to go to sneak into the Capitol and attempt to take the Emperor's life. I had asked if they can any kunai or ninja starts to spare but just like myself, they seemed to be out as well. It seemed we all were going to rely on either stealing or our quirks to defend ourselves from here on out. After the snacks were gone, we dashed out from the trees and through the field, continuing our journey into the enemy lands. Missions like this were definitely scary, and sending the three heirs to the throne was a risk most would never take, but times were desperate and we had mouths to feed. And lives to protect. And land to save and hold on to. The will of lightning pumped through our veins like blood and kept us going in these hard times. I let my mind wonder off for a moment while using my quirk to dart off into the darkness but quickly came back to reality when I saw one of my fellow shinobi step on a trap with and bellow a scream so loud that anyone within the surrounding villages could probably hear it.

".... Shit."
