January 12th

Staring out the window, seven year old Rory watched as the wisp of a three headed dog ran around the yard. The sound of children playing behind her drowned out from her ears while her eyes continued to be glued on the mystical being. Some sense of comfort spread throughout her small fragile body.

One of the heads turned to her and soon followed by the rest. Their jaws hang open as they're about to let out a loud bark but before it could, a ball went through it, destroying any sort of trace of its existence. Rory caught the ball mere seconds before it hit her face and lowered it.

"Quit daydreaming, Clementine." The boy spat.

Jeremy Geller, a boy around her age, walked up to her with his lackeys following behind him. Ever since they were little, Jeremy had made it clear to make her life a living hell every day. The worst he had done was locking her outside the orphanage during winter season, and imagined the horror of their orphanage director finding her, lying on the cold hard ground with only her pajamas and a thin blanket that came with her when she was left at their doorstep to protect her.

Yet, Jeremy was never punished because no one had ever caught him in action.

"Can't blame her, really." Sam, one of Jeremy's followers, snickered. "She's a girl."

Footsteps walked down the steps and stopped next to her. "How does being a girl be the reason she's daydreaming? Don't boys daydream too?" Felicity countered. Rory looked up at her and gave her a smile to thank her.

"Boys don't daydream." Jeremy said.

"Tell that to the drool on your face!"

Laughter erupted around them, and it was then she noticed the other kids had circled them to watch the 'show'. Rory watched Jeremy's face flushed red in embarrassment. His fist clenched and he took a step towards her, fisting the collar of her shirt and pulled her up. "Are you going to let her speak for you all the time?" He seethed. "What are you? A retard or something?"

"Enough, Jeremy." Felicity went up to him and tried to uncurl his fingers from Rory's shirt, only to be pushed away by him and stumbled backwards.

"Say something, retard!"

"Jeremy-"

"Shut it, Sam!" He yelled behind him before returning his focus to the girl in his clutches. "Say something!"

Rory kept her lips sealed tight. No way was she going to answer to some prick who'd bully her every day. Instead she continued to glare the same intensity into his bright green eyes. Plus... if she continued to stay silent while he kept on trying to provoke her, she wouldn't get in trouble seeing as she could see the director walking up to them in her peripheral view and the rest of the kids have dispersed.
