Becca Swiftly settled on the edge of the bed in her new room at Thomas Jefferson Boarding School for Young Men and Women. This was hard. She was not only adjusting to a new school, but a different state as well. She and her father had moved from Boston to New York, and she'd gone from a run down boarding school near Salem to an exclusive school in Buffalo, right on Lake Erie. It was a lot to take in all at once.

Becca glanced at the uniforms lying on the bed beside her.

Her choices had been limited, but she'd done her best to pick things that were different from what everyone else wore. Rather than the light blue plaids, starched blazers and vests, pantyhose, and loafers or saddle shoes, she'd chosen dark blues, cardigans, sweater vests, thigh high socks, and Converse high-tops.

'I hate uniforms,' she thought morosely. 'At least this school has pretty colors and I'm not stuck wearing maroon and forest green'.
