Chapter 7: Shadows Unveiled
The healer's suggestion lingered in the room like a whisper, and as she left, Glimmer, Bow, and Glimmer's mom followed suit, leaving Adora alone with Catra. The feline warrior lay on the bed, still gripped by unseen shadows, her breathing uneven.
Adora, feeling a mix of responsibility and concern, took a deep breath. "Catra, we're going to figure this out. You're not alone."
As the others left, Adora's focus turned to the healer's recommendation. She glanced around, spotting a pile of loose clothing nearby. With a sense of determination, Adora reached for her own grey hoodie, a piece of comfort she hoped might soothe Catra's distress.
Flustered, Adora hesitated, realizing the intimacy of the task ahead. Catra, limp and unresponsive, lay vulnerable before her. Swallowing her nervousness, Adora began removing Catra's clothing, her movements careful and respectful.
Averting her gaze, Adora mumbled to herself, "Just... gotta get you into something loose." She found an old pair of trousers, gently dressing Catra in them. The process, though awkward, carried a tenderness born out of genuine concern.
Adora noticed Catra's shivering, the chill in the room cutting through the air. The hoodie, adorned with the familiar Rebellion insignia, seemed to offer a layer of comfort. Adora pulled the hood over Catra's head, a small smile playing on her lips.
"You look really cute with your hood up, y'know?" Adora spoke softly, hoping to bring a touch of warmth to the heavy atmosphere.
Catra, though still caught in the clutches of her troubled dreams, managed a slight groan, accompanied by a small, almost imperceptible smile. Adora's heart skipped a beat at the response, a mixture of relief and affection washing over her.
With utmost care, Adora scooped Catra into her arms, cradling her like a fragile treasure. The weight of Catra's form, usually strong and resilient, felt lighter now, as if the feline warrior had surrendered to a momentary vulnerability.
Moving to their bed, Adora laid Catra down, arranging the pillows for support. She sat beside her, one hand gently stroking Catra's back in a soothing rhythm. The room, once tense with uncertainty, now held a quiet intimacy as Adora watched over the warrior who had become an inseparable part of her life.
The moonlight filtered through the window, casting a soft glow on the pair. Adora's thoughts, usually consumed by battles and the fate of Etheria, shifted to the vulnerable soul before her. In the silence of the room, Adora found solace in the simple act of caring for Catra, a momentary respite from the chaos that surrounded them.
As Catra's breathing gradually steadied, her body relaxed against the pillows. Adora, still sitting by her side, felt a sense of reassurance. The hoodie, a makeshift shield against the cold, seemed to cocoon Catra in a sense of security.
Adora whispered into the quiet night, "Rest, Catra. We'll face whatever haunts you together."
With that promise hanging in the air, Adora continued to stroke Catra's back, her presence a steady anchor in the swirling currents of Etheria's tumultuous fate. The night, once fraught with shadows, now held a glimmer of peace as the two warriors navigated the uncharted territory of vulnerability and companionship.
