In Mirinae, there was one group in particular that I hoped to join. It was a K-Pop group called IVY. The group was spectacular, and were thinking of having another member join. Although I am not experienced in any way, I need the money badly.
I opened my phone and searched for any singing and dancing classes I could take. Since auditions are only two weeks away, I have very little time to get to an amazing and professional level like IVY.I was scrolling through classes when one caught my eye. A class for both singing and dancing would be taught Anthony Jung. Except..it wasn't a class. It was a one on one session.
Anthony Jung was a well known figure in the entertainment world. He was known to be spoiled the moment he could open to his eyes. However, it was pretty much forgotten due to how talented he was. Vocals, dancing, speaking foreign languages, you name it and he could probably do it.
I would have to go in person to his office and be interviewed there. I checked the time and day for me to go, and it was...today?! His studio was a mere fifteen minutes by walking, but I know for sure this place would be packed. Running back down the stairs of the fourth floor, I put in the direction's for Anthony Jung's studio.
I turn the corner and nearly run into an elderly couple. Profusely apologizing, I still go through the automatic door. The wind whips my face, and I regret not taking PE seriously. My body, so out of shape, begins to ache. I even want to plop on the concrete with my hurting body and give up. But I remember Mia and how she looks pale and weak. This drives me.
I pick up the pace, now sprinting towards the direction of the studio. I pass the park, looking at little kids playing soccer. I nearly run into a hotdog stand that smells wonderful. Pass a couple of restaurants and one animal shelter. And just a few steps beyond that? Anthony Jung's studio.
It's painted a midnight black. The windows are clean and clear and I can easily see Anthony's muscular body working out. I take five seconds to catch my breath and I turn on my phone to check the time. It's been 13 minutes. Hurriedly, I open the door to the studio. As the door opens, you can hear a faint bell noise, signaling a person has entered. Anthony's eyes flicker towards me. He looks serious and tough; not a smile in sight. He straightens his back, making me realize how tall he truly is.
"Ah, you're here for the class?" He asks and looks at his watch, "You barely made the last time slot."
"I'm sorry," I apologize, still gasping for air. "I saw it late and ran here as fast as I could."
He nods and walks to the cooler beside him. He opens it and sticks his hand inside, then grabs a bottle of water. He tosses it to me and I catch it, feeling the cool plastic on my hand. "Looks like you need it.""Thank you!" I exclaim and open the water bottle quickly. As I take a sip of water, he begins his questions.
"What's your name and age?" He inquires."Lina Kim. I'm 19." I respond, already feeling nervous.
"Oh. Were you born here?" He questions.
"Yes." This seems to be going rather smoothly.
"Nice, nice. What makes you qualified for this class?" He asks.
Crap. The question I've been dreading.
I gulp loudly and respond hesitantly. "Um..nothing. Nothing makes me qualified for this."
Anthony stares at me and laughs as if it's the funniest thing he's ever heard. "Good one, you got me there for a second. But really, what makes you qualified?"
"Nothing. I have no prior experience that makes me qualified." I repeat, and his eyes widen. He looks at me, absolutely dumbfounded. "You..ugh, okay. Then why are you here? For fun?"
"No." I say firmly, "I want to join IVY. I want this session so that I can be with IVY, as it's extremely important for me."
"That's unfortunate. I'm not a genie; I don't make wishes come true. If that's what you want, I can't guarantee-"
"I don't care if you can't guarantee it!" I yell it out so loud that it could possibly shatter eardrums, "Okay? I don't care! But I need this so bad, Mr. Jung."
"And what possibly for?" He asks intrigued.
"Have you ever seen a family member on what looks like their deathbed? Well, I have. My younger sister. She's so small, so fragile." I begin to tear up, a lump forming in my throat. I look at the floor, so he can't see my desperate state. "So thin and pale and weak. I can't lose her. No...I can't. Please.."
I can't hold it in anymore. The tears begin flowing down my cheeks like little rivers.
"I..jeez. I'll get back to you in a week, alright?" He mutters, "I need to think it through."
I look up, and I bet my eyes are sparkling. "Really?"
"God, do I have to say it twice?" He shouts. "I said I'll think about it. Now head off."
I smile and bow. "Thank you, Mr. Jung."
He shrugs but says no more. I walk out the building and finally wipe my eyes. I look up at the sky, and whisper words of gratitude. It seems like God has finally answered my prayers of desperation with the chance to prove myself. Here, I know now for a fact, is the way I save Mia.
