ARREST ME, OFFICER KIM || CHAPTER 1
In the dimly lit bar, a quiet hush settled as people immersed themselves in conversations. Soft whispers and laughter merged with the clinking of glasses, creating a cocoon of shared moments.
The occasional sight of couples lost in each other's company added a touch of romance to the air.
Beside you, a couple shared an intimate moment, lost in a world of their own. The bar, with its subdued lighting, became a haven for stolen kisses and stolen glances.
Feeling the need to release the building stress, you both chugged down your bottles, the cool liquid offering a brief respite. The clinking of glass against the wooden table punctuated the moments of reflection and camaraderie.
“I am sad, you know…” You said to which the person sitting beside responded with a gentle smile, acknowledging the emotion. “Well, we can't do anything about that.” She, your elder sister, Park Soyeon, said, making a pout form on your lips.
"Do you think it'll be weird, pretending to be someone else just to match what they expect?" Soyeon asked, staring at you, seeking for an answer.
“You don't need to pretend Sis, just be yourself, the real you.” You answered, Transitioning to a more serious matter, and expressing your genuine concern giving her a reassuring smile.
"I just want you to be happy. Promise me, if tomorrow doesn't feel right, if you don't like the guy, you'll tell them. Don't go through with it just because it's expected.” You retorted, Soyeon took a moment then nodded giving you the smile you wanted.
As Soyeon and you continued your conversation, the topic shifted to what she would wear tomorrow. Why? Because that's the day when the boy's family is coming over to meet her.
It's not exactly a love story; it's more like a business move to grow your family's company by marrying her off to their older son.
Your parents aren't forcing her, but they just want to check out the guy. It's like a mix of business and family stuff happening, and you're getting ready for it!
Soyeon sighed, her fingers tracing patterns on the condensation-dappled glass. "I never thought I'd be picking an outfit for something like this. It's like a business meeting but with fancier attire," she remarked, a hint of humour in her voice.
You chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. "Well, at least you get to showcase your wardrobe. Who knows, your fashion sense might seal the deal," you teased, earning a small smile from Soyeon.
She raised an eyebrow, "Do you think they care about my fashion sense or the family's financial statement more?" Your laughter mingled with the ambient hum of the bar, providing a brief respite from the weight of the impending meeting.
Soyeon took another sip of her drink before leaning in, her expression turning serious. "You, what if they don't like me? What if I don't like him? It's a big step, and I'm not sure if I'm ready for it," Soyeon confessed, peeking through her usual composed demeanour.
You placed a reassuring hand on hers. "You don't have to figure it all out tonight. Just take it one step at a time. And remember, you have a sister who's got your back no matter what."
A soft smile played on Soyeon's lips, and for a moment, the apprehension seemed to ease. "Thanks, Y/N. I appreciate having you by my side through all of this.”
As you continued chatting, your conversation shifted to more lighthearted topics, attempting to steer away from the impending seriousness of the next day. You discussed childhood memories, shared laughter, and even made plans for a post-meeting celebration, regardless of how things unfolded.
