It's been 4 hours. It's 4:30 a.m. and we are all still awake. My mother and Thomas Smith (Christian's Dad) are talking. Misty (Thomas' girlfriend) is trying to get the 2 year old Alexis to go to sleep. Samuel has his own house, which is actually an R.V. (*that's none of my business☕*) so he isn't over here with us. I don't like Samuel very much though, so I don't mind that he isn't here. Christian and I are in my room playing with my toy cars. I'm not exactly a girly girl, but as age 6, who is?
"Christian, why did you move here?" I ask. I'm not being invasive because we have been asking each other questions all night (morning?) I already know that his favorite color is light blue (because of my eyes). He moved here from Mississippi. And he likes dirt bikes. I said my favorite color was purple. I've always lived here. And I liked to go on adventures.
"I don't know Ivy. My dad said we had to go because he needed new work." He doesn't look up from the cars. Yes he called me Ivy. That's his nickname for me. He told me no one else could call me that because it's "our thing".
"Oh, my mommy doesn't have work. Her boss said she had to come back once her belly was small again." I laugh as Christian rams two cars together. Sending one hurling into the wall.
"Ivory?" He says, looking up at me.
"Yea, Christian?" I ask. I'm confused, he got so serious all of a sudden. I hope everything's okay.
"We are going to be friends forever. I can already tell. Ivory and Christian, partners in crime!" He smiles and we both erupt into giggles as he sends another car into the wall. Everything is so simple and easy when you're 6. You think that every dream comes true and every promise is forever. Well for us it was. Christian was always there for me. We were inseparable. We did everything together, we climbed trees and build forts, we race bikes and played tag. We got to a trouble a lot, but I was also the clumsy one out of the two. I always got hurt, and Christian always took care of me. Like the day I broke my ankle.
