BACK AT THE GARRISON; That feeling washed over the Shelby man again. All those years ago when he walked into his pub on a regular Tuesday to stumble upon his childhood love one again after a mere decade apart; The same feelings from then are what filled Thomas Shelby as he stare eye to eye with her once again after leaving him for a second time.
Without as much as a word, only a simple glance from the middle Shelby man, his eldest and younger brother both give a subtle nod before walking elsewhere; Leaving the ocean eyed boy with his not so golden haired girl.
At first there was silence.
Nothing but the muffled music and chatter from the jazz club behind filled the air between them. Even the few people who stood out front of the club found themselves shuffling their feet to stand elsewhere.
For the past month all Elizabeth thought of in her spare time was seeing her Shelby's again, seeing Thomas again to be more specific, but suddenly finding herself in the instance she finds herself utterly speechless.
Of course she fantasized about seeing Thomas Shelby again in person, but she never thought it would actually happen; And definitely not as soon as it did. If she knew, she would have prepared herself better. She would have reenacted the interaction in her head of all the possible ways she could think the conversation could go: Happy, sad, remorseful, surprise, clueless. And she would have gone over them all until she felt confident with each. She would have practiced. She would have spent more time on her hair and makeup that evening. She would have chosen a nicer dress to wear. There were so many things she would have done differently if she knew. But she didn't.
The ocean blue eyes of Thomas Shelby gaze at the woman that stands in view. Much like the last time he saw her for the first time in a while; Elizabeth looked different - Recognizable, but different none the less.
His eyes move from her brown hair that is intricately styled and pinned up, to the bangs that fall along her forehead above her eyes.
Those eyes...
That was how he knew it was Elizabeth. Not just because of the unique swirl of golden brown and emerald green they possessed, but because they spoke to his with as little as a quick glance.
But the eyes he were so certain of, he couldn't help but note as the next second ticked by, spoke more in a tired whisper than the strong tone they usually exuded.
As the third second ticks by, Thomas can feel what seems like a stab in his chest as the contours of the woman's hallow face become more prominent. The eyes that he grew up loving sit further in than he last saw, each encased with their own permanent shadows. Her cheekbones, although they have always been high and defined, they were still within full healthy cheeks that had a faint natural blush. But the little beds of perfect fullness that her cheekbones used to rest upon cease to exist, and are replaced by sunken shadows that in colour match the ones around her eyes. The faint pink glow of life within nowhere to be seen either; The fake pink powder in its place not tricking his eye.
