Pandora's Call

Chapter Five: Quaritch

Zora looked down at the scientist and tilted her head.

"Ha look at you, you're tiny." Zora laughed.

"Yeah, yeah. Come on ya big blue." She said, rolling her eyes, waving her arm and walking towards the room's door.

"This leads you outside, you will follow the dirt path until you get to the Avatar hut. There you'll meet other drivers, get your uniform and you'll get put on Scorpion's and off to the Avatar base." The scientist said putting her hands on her hips looking almost straight up.

Zora gave a thumbs up as the scientist unlatched the door and opened it. Zora walked out and took a deep breath. The air didn't smell as good as Zora hoped, more of a diesel and rubber smell than the wooded forest smell she was hoping for. She walked along the dirt pathway looking at everything around her. She looked up at the sky and suddenly felt a thud against her chest.

"Hey watch it!" Another Avatar yelled.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I just got in my Avatar, everything is so beautiful." Zora replied. She looked at the Avatar in front of her, he had a military buzz cut and decked out in military gear with an ear piece.

"Eh, I just got in mine as well, I guess." He shrugged, he looked at her and squinted a little bit.

"Name's Quaritch." He said putting his hand out, giving a slight smile.

"I'm Zora" She replied, reaching her hand out to shake his outstretched hand. She looked into his eyes and felt a hint of familiarization.

He smiled and put his gaze on the hospital gown Zora was wearing.

"How about I walk you to the Avatar hut?" He asked.

"That would be nice." Zora replied. She followed Quaritch looking at his tail, she looked under her arm behind her and noticed that she had one too.

"How did I miss that?" She thought. They walked to the Avatar hut and walked inside, it was empty.

"Um, your uniform should be over here, and there's a place to change over there." Quaritch said, pointing his finger in different areas.

Zora nodded and walked to an area and sorted through the bags of uniforms until she came across one labeled, "Sully-Z." She grabbed it and turned around walking to the changing room.

"It's easier to put your tail first." Quartich called out.

Zora closed the door and changed into her uniform, she came back out and walked up to Quartich.

"Damn." Quartich whispered to himself.

Zora noticed his ears slightly perk when he saw her. She giggled to herself, and sat down on one of the beds.

"So, why'd you become an Avatar driver?" Zora asked.

Quaritch hissed a little and sat down across from Zora.

"I didn't. I had no choice." He said, looking at his hands and then at Zora.

"Now, I became the thing I hated." He added.

Zora said nothing and looked at his eyes.

"I was a human, a Colonel actually. I made the mistake of trusting an Avatar driver and well. It bit me in the ass." He continued.

"So, why are you back on Pandora?" Zora asked.

"Revenge." Quaritch replied.
