Emilia's POV

"Damn, that guy is really as scary as everyone described him," Anthony said and I looked down.

"So you're the wife?" He asked me and I nodded.

"We got married a couple of months ago," I told him.

"Why?" He asked me. "What the hell are you doing with that guy?"

I stayed quiet. I trusted Anthony but we haven't spoken in years.

I'm not supposed to tell people that this is an arranged marriage.

He held my hand and looked all over it. "Does he hurt you? Does he hit you?"

I pulled away my hands from him. "No, Santo would never do that."

"How did your father even allow this?" He asked. "He didn't even want me being with you. How did he let that psychopath of a man marry you?"

"He is not a psychopath," I defended my husband.

He leaned closer to my ear.

"I heard he killed his brother," he whispered and I sighed.

"Stop Anthony," I told him. "When did you become such a gossiper?"

"Since I found out another man took my forever," he said and I smiled.

My smile dropped. "I'm so mad at you. Why did you leave without telling me and join Santo's mafia?"

"After your papá found us kissing, he transferred me to someone with a lower position. I couldn't stand them so I took a body-guarding job with one of the families here."

He pointed to a little boy with his mother. "I have to babysit a mother and her kid all day."

"You should've told me something. I thought you were dead."

"I might as well be," he told me. "Your husband keeps sending me daggers and looking at you."

I turned to see Santo talking to a few people. "No, he's not."

"Just wait a couple seconds and he'll look over here again," he assured me.

"This is ridiculous," I said as I watched Santo.

Two seconds after, Santo picked up his glass before turning around.

Our eyes instantly locked. His eyes softened a bit as he watched me.

They couldn't talk yet they said a lot.

They screamed of longing and desire.

I'm sure mine did too.

Dante discreetly hit him before he returned to his conversation.

"I don't like the way you two look at each other," Anthony said as I looked back to him. "You love each other."
