'He was sitting in the corner of the room, hugging his knees. He lowered his head as the pain slightly increased. It was from the inside; he didn't know where from or what caused it, but it truly hurt. He looked back up at the ceiling and took a deep breath. Tears filled his eyes. What was happening?
Without a warning, the pain increased to an intolerable amount and...'
- Hey!
Chandra slammed her notebook shut and looked up. She was relieved to see Jennifer coming towards her. "Oh, hi." She smiled. "What are you writing?" Jennifer asked, sitting down. "Oh uh... nothing." Chandra held the notebook tight and hid it under the table. "How's your day been?"
- Not bad. Visited a friend today. Look what I got you!
Jennifer put a paper bag on the table and pushed it towards her friend. Chandra looked at her with curiosity and then pulled out the object in the bag. It was a perfume bottle.
- Oh a perfume! Thank you so much!
- And it's not just any perfume! It's supposed to smell like the pages of an old book. I immediately thought of you when I saw it.
Chandra tried the perfume and was stunned by the result. "Wow! It actually does smell like it! Where'd you get it from?"
"Someone that I met recently." Jennifer smiled. Chandra smiled back and then there was an awkward moment of silence.
Chandra caught a glimpse of the way that Jennifer was looking at her and quickly turned her face away. She knew what that look meant, Jennifer was figuring out that something was off. Chandra probably should've kept her cool because looking away only triggered Jennifer even more.
- What's wrong?
- Hmm?
- Something's not right with you. What is it?
"Oh, no everything is fine!" Chandra faked a smile to the best that she could, but knew that the damage had already been done. That girl could read through almost anyone in the world.
"Not with me, Chandra!" Jennifer reached out and held her friend's hand. "I do psychology." Chandra sighed. "I don't know I... I've just been feeling weird lately..."
- Has anything happened? Or there's someone or something that's bothering you?
- Uh... not really...
- Are you lying again?
"No no!" Chandra sat more straight, trying to explain herself. "Everything is fine really! It's just a feeling that I have, you know?" Jennifer squinted and looked at her. "Hmm..." She then decided to let go. "Okay. If you say so."
Chandra forced another smile and to not make things awkward again, she offered to go and get something to eat together.
"Umm... yeah sure. Let's go." And with that, the two girls stood up and walked away.
