content warnings : alcohol abuse, suicide attempt
Hyejin was worried.
For the last few days, she hasn't had an appetite anymore. Her days looked grayer, and she couldn't stop fidgeting with her hands.
She was worried about Wheein.
Wheein was Hyejin's dearest friend. They have known each other since middle school, with nothing able to tear them apart. They were inseparable.
But Wheein wasn't doing well.
Whenever Hyejin asked Wheein how she was doing, she always had this defeated look in her face. Like she's barely hanging on, and one bad thing could cause her to completely break down.
Everything seems to have changed with Wheein. She is saying everything's fine and nothing's really changed, but Hyejin sees a different picture. Wheein's behavior is becoming more distant, as if she can't seem to find the joy in life anymore.
Hyejin quickly connected the dots, and all the signs Wheein has been showing clearly pointed towards a depression.
She wanted to help Wheein, comfort her, hug her and tell her it'll be alright.
But sadly, that wouldn't cure her depression. Wheein had to do it herself.
Hyejin's greatest concern was the alarming amount of alcohol Wheein consumed on a daily basis. She sought to drink away her feelings, and drinking to such an extent was troubling to Hyejin.
It wasn't an easy life, being an idol. The lack of power to control your life felt horrible, and Hyejin has come to know this fact well. The constant demand of being in the spotlight was not something Wheein could cope with anymore, and Hyejin acknowledged she was at her limit.
It broke her heart.
Hyejin first noticed Wheein's declining mental state roughly six months back, and as time went on, it only grew more severe. She made an active effort to help her friend, but it just wasn't possible.
It wasn't until only a few days ago that Wheein has been leaving Hyejin in complete silence. She wasn't responding to her messages, or picking up her calls. Hyejin was left truly worried sick.
She picked up her phone, aiming to reach Wheein once again. The call ended with nothing but a repetitive beeping to indicate that the call didn't reach her friend.
''Wheein-ah...''
I need to visit her, she thought.
Hyejin quickly grabbed her bag and made her way out.
She drove to Wheein with her car, her nervousness growing bigger each second.
After she got to Wheein's apartment, she presses on the doorbell.
And then she waits.
And waits.
And waits some more.
Fuck.
She grabs the spare key that Wheein gave her out of her bag, and hastily unlocks the door.
Hyejin steps into Wheein's apartment, greeted by the horrible stench of alchohol.
Her eyes immediately go to the large pile of soju bottles on the floor."Wheein-ah?" she says, her voice shaking.
She walks deeper into the apartment, calling Wheein's name again and again. But still, no reply.
Hyejin's heart is racing as she runs to the bedroom, dread filling each breath.
Oh no.
Lying on the floor in a pool of alcohol, she sees her.
