It's been three days since I have last spoken with Jay.
That evening in which he received a phone call from this mystery female was the last time that I saw him.Sure, it's only three days. But a lot can happen in this short amount of time.
A lot of thinking, and a lot of ignoring calls.
Jay has reached out to me multiple times, but I don't reply. Every time he calls, I decline. Every time he texts, I don't even bother to open it.
It's gotten to the point where he has tried showing up at my apartment, but he can't get passed the front door. Cassy knows that he has messed up, so she won't allow him inside. Each time that Jay shows up, she slams the door in his face.
But Cassy doesn't know exactly what happened.
She's a smart girl, though; she doesn't have to know what happened in order to protect me."Maybe we should find a party," her voice intercedes my thought process.
"I think that you need to leave this house."My gaze rolls over to her. She is sitting next to me, painting her nails.
"How many times do I have to tell you not to the use nail polish on our furniture," I speak, swiping away the bottle of lacquer.
"Stop avoiding the subject," she barks.
"I don't know what is going on between you two, but it needs to come to an end. Forget that damn boy and move on.""There's nothing to avoid, I don't know what you're talking about."
"You know exactly what I'm talking about-" a knock on the door saved me from any further lectures from her.
"Who do you think it is?" I ask, steering the subject towards our unexpected visitor.
Cassy shrugged, getting up from the couch.
"It's probably that playboy of yours."I watch as she swings open the door. An immediate smile finds her face as she observes this guest. Her eyes find me, shining brightly.
But my own eyes squint in confusion as she steps to the side, allowing the person in. Once he was into view, I also beamed.
Jumping up from my seat on the couch, I bring him into a tight hug. He returns the gesture, rubbing my back soothingly.
"I missed you, Jackson."
"I missed you too, Raina. Cassy told me that-"
"Shh!" Cassy hushed quickly, causing our heads to snap in her direction.
"I didn't tell you anything," she says through gritted teeth, shooting a look of warning.
"Right..." Jackson quickly cut in, only to trail off his words.
"Anyways," she states, pulling back her hair into a loose ponytail. It always amazes me how she doesn't need access to a mirror in order to do her hair.
"I need to go to the store. I'll see you guys later."There's no doubt in my mind that I know exactly what she is doing.
Cassy invited Jackson to our home so that she can leave us alone. Maybe she thinks that spending time with Jackson will help me to forget about Jay.
But maybe that's not what I want.___
"Do you want to walk towards the beach?" Jackson inquired, excitedly looking around.
We had decided to go into town and get some fresh air. It's a cool day, with a slight breeze-- making the weather not too hot to bear.
"Umm, sure."
Jackson threw his arm around me, leading us to the beautiful beach. Though it was beautiful, it was the same beach the Jay had taken me to.A pang shoots through my chest as I remember what took place here, just three days ago.
Jackson noticed that there was something wrong, but he chose to distract me.Jackson tosses me over his shoulder before he runs up to the water. He was wearing skinny jeans, but that didn't stop him from going knee deep into the freezing water. Laughter and screeches erupted from the both of us, but I continuously begged him to keep holding me.
"Why?" he asks through chuckles.
"The water is too cold," I whine, kicking my legs slightly.
"Well-" Jackson's voice was cut off by his own phone. Before he answered the call, he walked towards the sand and sent me down gently.
His lower lip jutted out, sending an apologetic look at me.
"Sorry, do you mind if I take this?" He questions while looking at the screen. "It's Mark."
"No, you should answer it."
He grins, and does exactly as I say.Jackson walked a bit away from my direction while he was talking.
Sighing, I sit down on the sand. There is no one else here, which surprises me greatly.
After a few more moments, Jackson jogs towards me. His features were filled with angst, which initially made my stomach drop.
"He really needs you," Jackson stated.
I didn't even have to ask who 'he' was."But I thought it's Mark that called you," I observed, narrowing my eyelids.
"You're right," he lifts up the hat that he is wearing, and runs a finger through his thick hair. "For some reason, Mark is with Jay. He said that Jay is a mess."
"I don't care," I dishonestly say.
"We have to go, dear."
"No," I blurt. "I'm tired of always coming to people's rescue!"
Jackson frowns, signaling me to go on.
"I bust my ass, trying to save everyone. It's my turn to be saved." His strong arms wrap around me, pulling my body into his.
"How do you want to be saved? Because I can arrange it."
"Well, maybe I don't need to be saved. I just need a break from everything."
Tears brim my eyes as he tenderly strokes my head.Maybe I shouldn't have said any of those words, but it felt nice to be embraced by someone that genuinely cares about my well-being.
After I had calmed down, Jackson took me to his house. We figured that Cassy would return to my apartment, but he wanted to be alone with me. Thus deciding to enter his home.
We silently walk upstairs and into his room. With no words said, I sit onto his bed as he searches for new pants to wear. His legs still aren't dry from the beach.
"Sometimes," Jackson began. "You hurt the ones that you love the most."
"What's your point, Jackson?"
"As much as I hate to admit it, I know that Jay loves you. Everyone can see it," a calming atmosphere took over. I don't know why I felt so relieved; maybe to hear the words that Jay doesn't just see me as another girl-- another game.
"Why do you hate to admit it?" I dare to whisper.
"I care about you, Raina. I don't usually say things like this, but it's only the truth. I never want to see you get hurt."
I stood up from the bed, and engulfed the boy into a hug. I know that it isn't typical for him to admit things, but I'm very glad that he did.
"Alright," he stated after releasing me. "Go get your boy."
