We weren't meant to be

Together

You were committed to

Forever

And so was I

But to live to last a lifetime

You resigned yourself to this life

Living like you committed a crime

Worthy of being imprisoned by

People who made you,

Then they break you.

A son left all alone.

Son of a cripple

And a high-tier

Lived like scum

For a while

The hate burned bright

He learned to fight

To unlock the gift that was rightfully his.

To finally, finally, win

Then as it does

Power got to his head

He couldn't forget what they did

The things they said.

So he unleashed

Society's beast

Called rage inside him.

And hurt ... and hurt... and hurt

He was deaf to their crying.

He was hungry.

He was angry.

Then, he was stopped.

And they beat him

Just like before

Reached into his head

And ripped him apart

Replaying it

Over and over and over again

An effective "corrective" mechanism

And he broke

Subdued, he tried to start again.

Went out of his way

Made some friends

But then it all happened again.

And he lost

Himself.

Striking purple hair mixed with green

Eyes the bluest you've ever seen

Alight with a power

So determined.

She breaks through the stone walls he'd built

Around his glass heart

And stands there with him as it all falls apart.

He gets better. I guess

Though recovery is wonky and topsy-turvy

As he tries to navigate this road to discovery

Of self-love and acceptance

But then comes the happenstance.

That the girl he loves is involved in something far bigger than

He's ever dreamed.

And so they're out, running for their lives.

Fighting all the time.

Can't catch a break when their lives are on the line.

Then after a failed mission.

And an almost-deadly intermission.

The two hold themselves together.

As the tears on their cheeks glisten.

They're just kids.

Just kids.

In a messed-up society

A society

That stole his mother.

Shunned her sister.

The streets they walk run rampant with killers.

It's always been about

Who has the most power? And those that don't, lose.

But hopefully

It will all end soon.

But first.
