Norman's POV
Thursday rolls around quickly. I wake up on Thursday morning to the beeping of my alarm. It's too damn early for this beeping noise machine. I pick my phone up and click stop. I groggily wobble out of bed and to my bathroom. I brush my teeth, eat a pop tart, and then change clothes.
"I'm going straight to Ray's after school to tutor him so I won't be home," I tell my mom right before I leave for school. "Ok. I love you, have a good day Norman," she replies sweetly.
When I arrive at school I go to my locker to put my stuff away. As I'm about to shove my bag in a red-headed girl accidentally bumps into me and I drop my bag (and consequently all my books and such). "Oh my goodness!! I'm so sorry!" She apologizes while kneeling to pick my stuff up. I kneel as well and set my bag up so I can put everything back inside. "It's alright!" I smile at her.
I recognize this girl, she's in my grade. Emma is her name. Fairly quickly all my stuff in returned to my bag. "Thanks for the help... it's Emma right?" I ask her. "Yup! That's me. And of course, I really need to watch where I'm going, Ray always teases me for being in a rush to get everywhere," she chuckles. "Oh, you're friends with Ray? That's cool, I've talked to him a bit," I tell her. "Oh I know," Emma says and smiles "Anyway I gotta run, sorry again!"
School goes by as normal, same boring classes. I walk to Ray's house after school, he fumbles with his key on his front porch. Eventually, he manages to unlock it and we go inside. "Want a snack?" He asks me as he walks toward his kitchen. "No, it's fine," I smile politely. "You sure? It's not a big deal," he tells me. "Ok maybe something small would be nice," I admit. He digs through his pantry and pulls out a cosmic brownie for each of us and a box of cheese-itz. "Thanks," I tell him as he hands me the brownie and sets the cheese-itz between us. "So where are we starting today?" He ask, clearly bored.
A while later I'm surprised we finished my goals for the day early. 15 minutes early. "Well... we finished the goals I had set so what do you want to work on next?" I ask him. "Mario Kart," he replies with a playful half-smile. I roll my eyes but he's already standing up. "Chill out, you can play too," he tells me. "We're supposed to be doing school work," I protest. "But we already finished your quota or whatever so why can't we just relax?" He questions me. I sigh heavily. Maybe because I'm not being paid to play Mario Kart? "Catch," he says and tosses a remote to me. I'm barely able to catch it. I glance at him and he motions me to come sit with him. Whatever. I walk over and plop down next to him on the couch.
"So who do you usually play as?" He asks me with what o read as curiosity in his voice. I only play at my friends' houses cause I don't have anything to play on, I usually switch characters. "Uhh... Toad or Yoshi," I tell him. "Yoshi? Really? I thought you'd play King Boo or something."
Sometime later we're at the end of the last race in the cup. Tied. I trail Ray in second. "Nooo!!! Let me win!" I shout. "Never!" He laughs. I smirk and elbow him. "Hey!!" He yells as I pass him for first place. I break out laughing. "Cheater," he grumbles, punching me lightly in the arm. "Okay says you last race you totally cheated!" I reply with a playful smile on my face. "Sureee I did," he rolls his eyes at me.
I glance up at the clock. "Oh, I should probably get going," I mumble as I stand up to gather my stuff. "Oh.. yeah you were supposed to leave like 10 minutes ago," he adds. I gather my stuff and shove it into my bag.
"That wasn't too awful," he tells me. "Yeah, it could've been a lot worse," I agree. "See ya in class tomorrow," he says as I turn to leave. I hear the door shut behind me and I sigh. I kinda wish I was still in there playing Mario Kart, I have nothing interesting to do at home.
Ray's POV
I plop back down on the couch to play some Mario Kart by myself. Lame that Norman had to leave, it was cool to have someone to play with for a while. Maybe he's not so bad, I was hesitant at first 'cause of his friends. He seems cool enough though.
I play some more Mario Kart for a while longer but I get bored eventually and decide to draw some. I could text Emma. Wait... no. She's at Gilda's tonight their having a girl's night or something with Anna and that one other girl.
Maybe mom was right maybe I do need to make some friends.
I could call Norman and see if he wants to come back over. I got his number since he's tutoring me and all. Except I don't wanna sound weird, we don't know each other that well. It was fun to hang out with him. I despise those other kids that he hangs around, that's another reason we can't be friends.
I sigh and decide to turn on Netflix. I scroll forever and don't find anything that I want to watch.
You know what? I'm gonna text him, if he thinks I'm weird so what? Everyone thinks I'm weird anyway.
