Two more days and she could hardly get anything down. David didn't go about the aggressive approach again but he still brought her three meals each day and stayed with her as she tried to eat and failed each time. He must have told her brother at some point as he insisted on getting a doctor who set her up to an IV to get the nutrients she had been lacking for almost a week.
It had helped some but she was still weak to a point. She shuffled around the house when she managed to get herself out of bed, it wasn't too often. She still spent most of her day in bed and would occasionally go to grab a book from the library.
Day three Ava, who was no longer sick, came to visit her. She was alone and had brought her some food that Fallon knew she would not be eating. She sat it beside her bed and took a seat at the end on top of the thick comforter that covered her and the mattress. She got cold so easily she needed to keep herself wrapped in it almost constantly.
Her sister in law didn't say anything at first, just smiled at her, her dark brown eyes gleaming. She was so much happier then she had been the few times she had seen her after they lost their first child. She was taking care of herself again, her skin looked clean and shiny and her hair was all covered in light blue silk bonnet. It was nearing the time Ava would be needing to put Garren to bed. The maid had mentioned things about the baby to her, how he was such a good sleeper and already set to a routine that Ava followed religiously.
It was no surprise to Fallon she was a wonderful mother, she always had a maternal presence to her. "I am sorry I haven't been able to properly speak with you till now. I have been out with a bad cold for days now." Her English accent laid heavy in her voice. It sounded so regal when she spoke with it, she heard others who had a similar type but none ever sounded as nice as Ava's.
It reminded her of a melody."It's alright, I just appreciate being able to be here." She would have taken being locked in their storage room over being in a house with Nicholas but those were words she did not want to speak of with anyone.
Ava's eyes moved to the plate of food Fallon hadn't even glanced at. She knew what was coming and wanted to scream, they didn't understand. She had never been cared for before, her brother had sat by and let years of physical and emotional abuse take hold on her psyche. Now though he had a wife he loved and a child that helped him understand, he knew true loss and loneliness and now he wanted to be the person she had needed for over two decades.
"Ava, please don't" She was so tired, tired of them trying too late."We care for you Fallon and we want to understand and help but we don't know what happened. We can't even start to help if we don't know what happened." She knew Ava was sincere, she truly did care but she seemed to be a lone angel in a family of the fallen.
"What happened was I was born into this family and everything after has been a reminder of why that was a mistake, why I was a mistake." Ava flinched, she had parents who loved her and cherished her. She had siblings who she lagged with and probably talked to just because they missed the other.
She knew pain but she didn't know Fallons.
"Fallon, please let me help you."
"The only people who can help me are those who got me here, who handed the gun and the bullets to the shooter. Trust me Ava when I say I understand my future and it is not going to look like yours. I also understand there is no true escape for me, only an ending." She could tell there were tears in her sister in law's eyes. She didn't let them fall but they were there ready to at any moment.
"Would you like to talk to someone, a professional?" She looked over Ava, at the way her hands twisted into the other, at the glistening eyes, at the nervous hunch in her posture and realized she might be able to get something from her, from the pity she felt for her.
"I don't really want to talk about the things that have happened, I would like to take a walk though. If just me and David could. I want to just get lost for a little while somewhere outside my head."
