"You what?"
"I found something."
"No," Mobius said as he held up a finger, using his other hand to lay his salad fork down on the table. "I told you not to bother me until you read all of the files."
"I have."
"Every file?"
"Yes."
"Within 20 minutes?" Evelyn asked curiously as she shoved the rest of her cookie in her mouth.
"Fifteen," he corrected her, pointing whatever papers he was holding in her direction. "I got lost on the way here."
"So you went through every file pertaining to the Variant?" came Mobius' inquiry.
"That's the thing!" Loki says, holding up one of his hands dramatically. "The answer isn't in the files, it's on the timeline."
Neither Mobius nor Evelyn knows what that means, but Loki begins to sit down, prepping himself for an explanation.
"He's hiding in apocalypses."
"...Wait, huh?" Evelyn blinks. "So, you mean, he's hiding inside of the meteor that claimed to kill all the dinosaurs?"
"No, not inside of it," he's quick to correct her. "I mean in the general area, the vicinity of the apocalypse!"
"Okay, well, which apocalypse?" Mobius questions. "Any time in history? There's, like, a million of 'em."
To answer, Loki turns around a sheet of paper, resting the palms of his hands on it. "Ragnarok. Are you familiar?"
Evelyn perks up at the mention of Ragnarok. The memories of the event aren't particularly pleasant, but she's intrigued to see where he's going with this.
"Yes, the destruction of Asgard and most of its people. I'm sorry."
"Right. Very sad." The tone of his voice shows Loki is more focused on projecting his theory to the audience. "Anyways, it got me thinking...Nexus events happen when someone does something they're not supposed to, right?"
"Ah, well, it's a little more complicated than that, but yes."
"Great. And then that thing they're not supposed to do, cascades into a whole range of other things that aren't supposed to happen, until eventually, a new timeline branches. Yes?"
"Chaotic alterations of a predetermined outcome. Mhm."
"Exactly! So, let's just say..." Loki trails off, reaching for Mobius' small bowl of salad.
"Whoa, what are you doing?" he asks.
"Your salad is Asgard in this scenario."
"No. No, that's not Asgard, that's my lunch-"
"It's a metaphor. Just hang in there-"
"I want that salad."
"And... I could go down to Asgard, before Ragnarok causes its complete destruction, and I could do anything I wanted." With that idea in mind, the man picks up the salt shaker from off the table. "I could, let's say... push the Hulk off the Rainbow Bridge."
"Wait, the Hulk?" Evelyn asks, watching as he shakes the salt onto the salad. "How do you know he was there, of all places?"
"I don't," he replies, before blinking back at her. "Was he?"
