I turned around to see his chest looming over my face. I looked up. The Demon King bent his back down. My body was trembling, and I felt his cold aura once again... 'I don't want to experience that again...' I tried to push him away with my left hand and turn my head away, clenching my teeth. The man grabbed my wrist. In surprise, I turned his way immediately, where I am met with a cold gaze.
The room was silent. My body was frozen. We were face to face, my eyes were shaking, my mind was blank. 'Why is the Demon King so intimidating!'
"A-ah... I don't know..." 'I couldn't tell him I just suddenly transmigrated here and became the villainess who is about to get executed!..'
"You look awfully similar to Layla..." He squinted his eyes in my direction.
I was surprised. 'He didn't know I was Elengard, renowned as the fake daughter of the royal family? The villainess that terrorized Layla, his beloved!' I looked at him in disbelief. 'For the past two or three weeks before I transmigrated here, did he not know this body's existence!?'
I stared at him, surprised, no longer feeling scared. I was just so surprised. "What?" He furrowed his brow.
"O-oh!... Nothing. I was just surprised."
"Surprised by what?" he said.
"Uh, uh, nothing."
He looked as if he was even more suspicious of me than before. He stepped back a little. "Sigh... whatever. Just leave." The Demon King approached the jail cell doors, gripping the lock on the doorknob with a determined force. He clenched it tightly before giving a forceful pull, causing the lock's inner workings to shatter, and the door slowly creaked open.
Creak~
'This Demon King... is scary!' Deep inside, I grappled with a tumult of emotions. "H-ha ha..." I forced a poker face, mustering a hesitant smile. "W-well, I better get going, Demon King. See you next time..." With cautious steps, I gradually exited the jail cell.
'See you never!' is what I'd wish to say, but 'I haven't completed my quest yet...' Having the reward would definitely help me along the way. I need to procure it to continue down this road."Now... where would I get bread?"
I glanced in both directions of the hallway. 'The Demon King had just broken the jail cell door and his chains. There is no security here... the guards still haven't come back yet.' As I looked in both directions, the hallways seemed dark and ominous even with the torches lit following the hallway. But to complete the quest, I have to get bread. "There doesn't seem to be anyone here now..."
I walked down the ominous halls. "I can't escape yet..." 'There are probably guards roaming everywhere outside; there's no way I would successfully escape with what I have now.' I had noticed just now, looking around the hallways, there were just brick walls and a long hallway. "Is it just us here?"
The only jail cells were mine and the Demon King's; I had so many questions. 'For all I know, the villainess only verbally abused the heroine, and once tried to poison her. She might be the fake daughter, but isn't this too much?' I had questions and worries, but I couldn't worry about this villainess's life right now; I had to continue to survive since I'm in her body now.
As I walked down the hallway, I heard murmurs. 'Guards!?'
I didn't know where to hide; I had to find a place quickly! I quickly observed my surroundings; my eyes wandered the walls. In front of me was a door; I heard murmurs of the guards getting closer and closer to the door.
Footsteps inching closer and closer towards my direction.
Bam! Clank!
The door opened suddenly, my body trembling, frozen in front of the door. There were no places to hide in this cramped hallway. 'Why did it have to be now! This was a bad idea... Ugh!'
As my body was trembling to the man standing face to face with me in a distance from the door."Haa!~ Hiccup- who are you..." It seems he was drunk; he had a wine bottle in one hand, and his face was red.
He marched towards me in a clumsy manner. He bent his face close to mine and squinted his eyes. "Hm~"
My body was straight, my eyes shaking in terror. "A-ah! I..."
"Are you new here?~ Weird." He straightened his back and rubbed his chin in a questioning manner. "The queen doesn't send anyone unless it's an emergency..."
'He doesn't recognize me! This guy is drunk to death.'
"Y-ya! I'm new here... haha. I think I went the wrong way... I'll just-"
"Hold on! Your voice is not like a man... Hmm." He leaned closer scanning my face.
I could feel my heart beating intensely, racing at that moment. 'When will this guy let me go!'
The hallway was in silence, and I didn't know what to say in that situation, my eyes trembled. I almost let out a tear, from the stress built up.
He suddenly patted my back, like he would do to his other buddies. "Calm down! Hiccup- I'm not gonna punish you, whatever. Since you're new here, go to the pantry and grab some food and feed the prisoners." He leaned back and hummed his way out of the hallway.
"Hm~hm~him~"
"Phew! I thought I was about to get caught! Luckily, he was drunk at that moment... If he wasn't, I don't wanna think what would happen..."
'Let's quickly get the bread and go!' I quickly walked towards the door.
