Chapter 2

About an hour later, Lapis, Peridot, Bismuth, and a few other team members were lounging around the magic ward's rec room as they waited for dinner to be ready.

Lapis: Any word yet, Marina?

The dark blue pearl that they had known for months, now sporting the nickname "Marina" took out her mobile device and looked at the screen.

Marina: Nope, nothing yet. But once I do get something, you guys will be the first to know.

Jay groaned in frustration.

Jay: You'd think that a powerful entity like her would be easy to find...

Bismuth: Well, she sure isn't making it easy, that's for sure.

Laval abruptly stands up and heads for the door.

Laval: I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't want to sit around and do nothing while she's still out there!

Lyra: But that's all we can do right now! We can't just clap our hooves and make her appear! Or... snap your fingers in your case.

Laval: Even so, I'm not content with just sitting around here. I'm going to go see if dinner's ready.

And with that, he leaves the rec room. Lapis drags her hands down her face.

Lapis: Laval is right, let's just hope that they find her soon. If there's any chance that we can stop her, then I don't want to be sitting around here either.

Macy: It's not as if the prospect of defeating her is any better. You saw what happened to Pearl when she used her astral power. What if the only way to stop her is to use that power, and you guys just completely go off the deep end?!

Bismuth: If that's what it takes, then so be it. I'd sacrifice myself right now if it means that you all would be safe.

Clay: Heh, honorable till the bitter end... aren't you Bismuth?

Bismuth (Jokingly): You're one to talk, Mr. "Knight's Code."

That got a few laughs out of the group. Marina's phone then vibrates and she quickly answers the call.

Marina: Hello?

Everyone went rigid as they stared intently at Marina.

Marina: Oh... hey Chrome.

Everyone fell back into their seats in relief or exasperation.

Marina: What's that? You're outside?

Lapis abruptly stands up at those words, and Peridot sits bolt upright in her seat.

Marina: The door's locked? Huh... Laval must have activated the auto lock once he left... hold on, I'll open it for you.

Peridot stands up and races to the door.

Peridot (Quickly): I'll get it!

She puts her hand on the scanner and motions behind her to the rest of the group to get Lapis out of there. They all squabble to get her out of sight of the door. The scan completes and Peridot selects the "unlock" option for the door. It opens to reveal that Chrome was on the other side.

Peridot: He-hey Chrome!

Chrome: Hi Peridot. How have you been holding up?

Peridot: Good, good. You?

Chrome: I'm doing alright, considering that I literally saw Pearl tear open the universe and kick Red Diamond into it.

Peridot: Heheh... yeah, that was... actually really cool when you think about it.
