Xavier's POV
Life was not something deemed easy. I was born out of a test tube like Gus had but Bird was not satisfied because I showed no sign of being different until I was older. I was six when the world began to crumble and when Bird finally got the result she had been hoping for. Gus was an extraordinary hybrid as he didn't look as different as other hybrids but he had horns, ears, and a tail of a white tailed deer. From the beginning Bird knew he would be the one to bring a change in the world but she never took into account what the world would truly bring for us. When I was ten I had finally started to show what my animal form was. Unlike other hybrids I could fully shift into my animal along with having heightened senses such as sight, smell, and strength so it made me the first most normal hybrid unlike my little brother. At first when pubba brought the two of us to the forest he had hoped he only had one shifter to worry about then I came into the picture with my change.
The first time I shifted into my animal and that was when pubba got to see that I was a wolf hybrid. I wasn't like other hybrids who showed the physical traits of their change but that was an advantage I had come to learn throughout my time. As I got older Pubba had started to have me go on runs since I could blend in better or shift if I needed to though I never had gone far. Years had gone by and now at sixteen I was together with Gus in our hide out away from the other people. Our pubba had been gone for two years now with Gus and I working hard to try to keep moving forward though it was hard for the both of us. Gus was struggling while I was now taking care of a kid on top of myself. It was a hard battle for the both of us since we could only take so much.
I had just come back from hunting when I saw a fire, running to the house where I saw a piece of the garden on fire along with Gus' sock dog that his dad made for him. I quickly ran to put out the fire, silently praying no one would see the flames while Gus finally snapped out of his haze. I pulled him to me and let him cry as he gripped onto me sighing heavily as I let the small boy cry into my arms, listening as he apologized over and over again for what had happened. I kissed his head and held him clos as I swayed him gently, keeping him close before I picked up sock and handed it back to him. "Are you okay now?" I asked him quietly as he nodded and I wiped the tears away with a soft smile.
I sent him back inside and began to work on the garden, salvaging what I could and worked on getting the meat cleaned up from my latest hunt. I rolled my neck as I continue to work on cleaning up around our house as Gus was inside studying since I liked to make sure that he kept getting smart like his dad wanted. I had no idea what I was doing and most of the time it showed as I was struggling more and more with this, questioning why he had to go and do that to himself. I sighed once I had finished doing what I had to and walked into the house once I changed out of the bloody clothes. Gus was already asleep by the time I was finished with my chores but I smiled seeing that he did the little pieces of homework I gave him to do. I carefully got into bed and laid down, covering Gus before I began to rest. I let the dreamless sleep entrap me as I slept on the couch in the livingroom with my arm over my face to block out any light.
I shot up when I heard the gate being broken along with a gun. I glance over to see that Gus had also been woken up. I debated before I decided to take Gus with me as I went to investigate what was happening at the fence. When we arrived to the fence I made sure Gus stayed low before I made my way closer to the fence, seeing someone had broken through and immediately began to search around. I shifted into my wolf and stood up straight as I sniffed around before I let out a loud yelp feeling a piercing pain in my side. I fell to my side as Gus jumped out of his hiding spot and ran to me, lightly shaking me. "Xavier, Xavier don't leave me." He whimpered to me as I tried to lift up my head letting out a growl when I saw two hunters come closer to him. I nudged him behind me as I tried to stand up, snarling with my canines showing to make sure they understood I wouldn't hesitate. They both laughed as they stalked closer, raising the cross bow at me when i saw one of them go down. I growled then nudged Gus to go hide as I forced myself to stand. I glance around to see the other hunter looking around and launched at the hunter, digging my teeth into his carotid artery, killing him instantly as I saw a big black man come out along with Gus who came running at me.
