Quinton
I hate basketball practice. But coach Carson, forces me to tryout every year because apparently I have great 'potential' in this sport. He's even making me try out for varsity. He's not wrong though, I am good at basketball, purely because my mom was obsessed with it and made me play with her all the time. It's the only reason why I haven't quit yet, well, that and Coach Carson's constant nagging. Another thing that bothers me about practice is that none of the other members of my team take this seriously and I can see the disappointment in Coach's eyes. I would've said something if the team captain - Ethan wasn't such a narcissist. Trying to reason with him, is like talking to a wall.
After school ended, I went to pick up Ashley from fencing practice. Ashley and I, have known each other since we were kids. We were neighbors and our fathers were in the same line of work. So naturally, our parents used to joke about us getting married to each other. But I've personally, never felt that way about her. Sure, she's pretty, but I don't feel anything when I look at her, unlike someone else. Someone who beat her at her own game. If I didn't know her I would've sworn she was jealous when I talked about Ashley. And while I was waiting for Ashley, I couldn't help but stare at her, and how relaxed she looked. Maybe I should- Who the hell is that? And what did he say to make her laugh so hard? She doesn't even smile when I talk to her.
"Olivia, would you like to introduce me to your new friend?" I ignored her scowl and her heated glare towards me and instead, focused on the sleazy bastard standing infront of me, Noah Miller, A Junior in the hockey team, jet black hair, decently good looking and also a playboy. He was known to hit on all the new girls in our school, I didn't really care about him before, but these days, I seem to care a lot about who this one girl beside me talks to
"Noah, this is my friend Quinton." Friend? That one word made me feel like I got punched in the stomach.
"Quinton, its great to see you again, dude."
Well I Can't say the same about you. "Likewise, well I would love to stay here and chat, but I'm here to pick up Ashley."
I noticed Olivia's smile faltering when I mentioned Ashley, huh, maybe I'm not the only one who's jealous. Wait what, I am not jealous.
After an eternity of squinting at Ashley and mumbling something, she finally said, "Well I've to go too-Mom's making meatloaf today...And oh my god, look at the time! My sister must be waiting for me." If I didn't know any better I would've believed her lame excuse. I knew that her sister didn't come to pick her up because she wasn't even sixteen yet.
Noah grinned, "Well...see you around Olivia!"
Ashley finally came out and I decided to talk to her for once on our way home. "How was practice today?"
"It was good, same old."
"How's Olivia?" Ashley looked at me, confused,
"What do you mean, "How's Olivia?". Why do you care?"
I replied, "I don't," yeah, right. You literally got jealous of her smiling with another guy. Totally normal behavior. "I was just asking because you seemed really pissed about that bet you made with her a while back."
"Well, I might've judged her a little harshly in the beginning, I thought she was one of those rich brats who got in because of daddy's money or connections but the more I train with her, the more I understand how she got in here. She's good, actually, scratch that, she's amazing. And I'd be lying if I said she wasn't. We've sparred multiple times as well and she surprises me each time. What's weirder is that she doesn't seem to understand just how good she is. I mean, she knows she's good but she doesn't know how much."
I grinned. That's my girl.
"Oh my god, I might puke. Is Mr. Quinton De Marco smiling?" She said looking disgusted.
"Shut up, Wang."
She smirked, "You like Olivia don't you?"
"How is me asking about your day and a person you had a serious argument with a sign that I like her?"
"Oh don't fool me, De Marco, I've seen since the day you were born. Literally."
"Are you calling me a child?"
"Maybe"
"Remind me to never pick you up ever again."
"Well, Next time, drop Olivia too."
"I-what-now why would I do that?"
The little spawn from hell started laughing, "Did you just stutter? Man I've to thank Olivia for letting me see this side of you."
I scowled, she's not wrong, no what am I saying, I can't like her, not that crazy woman. "What side are you talking about?"
"Your lovey-dovey side."
I was gonna kill Ashley Wang.
"Speaking of Olivia, I'm gonna hangout with her at the mall tomorrow."
"Wow, so you're like buddies or something now?"
"Oh we're more than that, sweetie"
What. My jaw clenched. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"Chill, I'm kidding, oh god, look at you getting jealous over nothing."
"Again, Shut up, Wang."
She started laughing again and played a random pop song about being in love with the boy living next door. But all I could think about was that one girl who lived inside my head.
