"Have I mentioned that I hate planes?" I had to choke back vomit.
Fiona giggled. "Helicopters are worse."
We pulled into the bridal gown store parking lot. Mary didn't look very excited, whereas Fiona looked like she just won the lottery.
"What's the matter?" I asked Mary.
"I'd rather wear slacks than a dress...."
"Mary, you'll look great in whatever you wear," Florence encouraged. "But I'm not letting you wear pants."
I laughed. "Me too."
We walked in and were surrounded by white dresses. Mermaid dresses, ball gowns, sparkly dresses, short dresses, I had a feeling we would find Mary's dream dress here with such a wide selection.
An attendant with bright blue eyeshadow and dark hair came over and led Mary to a dressing room while we looked for dresses. Florence found a sparkly ivory ball gown that Fiona and I immediately turned down. Definitely not Mary's type. Fiona came up with a few dresses and I came up with a few dresses and sent them off to the changing room.
Mary came out with the first one that Florence had picked out, a mermaid dress with a sweetheart neckline and chiffon ruffles at the bottom, I don't know why Florence thought it would look good on her, her shape wasn't meant for mermaid gowns. Florence's next pick was a poofy ball gown with lace shoulders and a low back, she looked like a cotton ball. Fiona's picks were a bit more Mary. A long sleeve silk gown with a long sparkly train, which did not please Mary at all. She also picked a ball gown with lace sleeves that was very pretty, especially on Mary, but she still wasn't pleased.
"Come on, Mar, we are going to be here all day." Florence grumbled as she sifted through a rack of blush colored dresses. No way was she wearing pink.
"Maybe I'm just not cut out for dresses," Mary mumbled as she looked at her butt in a long lace flared gown with capped sleeves I had picked out for her. "I'll just wear a nice skirt."
"Nope, one more dress, please?" I begged as I shooed her back into the fitting room.
We all bit our nails nervously as she walked out of the fitting room in a simple, long satin dress with a thin ribbon belt adorned with a big white carnation. She looked amazing.
Mary turned to the mirror, and her scowl disappeared when she saw herself in it. Her mouth dropped open in awe as she studied herself, spinning and taking in her gorgeousness.
"I....."
"You look amazing." Florence said.
The attendant came over and fit a veil in her casually down brown hair, she looked like a princess. "Are you saying yes to the dress?"
And something surprising happened, tears came into Mary's eyes. "Y-yes."
We all clapped and hugged Mary. I was so happy for her. She doubted her true beauty and what she was truly capable of, other than mixed martial arts.
"Yeah, I found a dress." Mary smiled as she told John over the phone. "We are bringing Audrey to meet you, she is so excited."
I really wish that I had known about them dating before because then I could've given him "the talk", but maybe even as they are engaged I can give it to him.
We pulled into the familiar Opal Acres, and a warm feeling of comfort came over me. This was my real home, I would never forget this place. Smoke came out of the chimney when we got to our house, John must've been cooking something. We went inside and smelled the wonderful scent of stir fry, John could cook, something my aunts could never do.
John turned around and smiled. He had cocoa skin, kind brown eyes, a large build, and sharp jaw bones. His expression was kind, very contrasting to his muscly body. I could see how Mary fell for him. He wore an apron that said "Kiss the Cook", which Mary did when we came in.
"I can't wait to see you in that dress." He said in a deep voice.
Mary giggled and blushed. Mary was blushing.... And giggling. Oh my God, she was turning into a girl. "I just want to be married already."
His brown eyes fell on me, he took my hand in his and kissed my knuckles. "I'm John Diggle, you must be Audrey."
I smiled and blushed. "You must be Mary's fiance."
He laughed. "I am. You must be Mary's darling niece/daughter that she tells me so much about."
"Yes." He was so nice.
"Very nice to meet you. I guess it is a little late for this," he cocked an eyebrow. "May I have Mary's hand in marriage?"
Fiona, Florence, and I all laughed. Mary's face was flushed in slight embarrassment, but she was smiling. "Yes, I give you permission to marry Mary," that sounded weird. "As long as you promise not to hurt her."
He kissed Mary on the forehead and slung an arm around her shoulder. "I promise."
Mary smiled and kissed him on the cheek, turning to me and mouthing, "Isn't he a charmer?"
I smiled and nodded.
"Dinner will be ready in ten minutes, how about you go call Phillip?" Florence offered.
I nodded and skipped upstairs, back into my old room. Everything had been left the same since the last time I had been here, my pillow was still on the floor, my posters taken down from the wall, even my window had been left open. I flopped onto my bed, dialing Phillip's number.
"How was dress shopping?"
"Great. But Mary is such a stickler when it comes to fashion." I giggled.
"When will you be home?" I could hear him trying to keep the excitement out of his voice.
I shrugged and sighed. "I really wanted to stay until tomorrow afternoon, see Cara...."
"Yeah, I get it," he sounded a little deflated. "Have fun, love you."
I smiled. "Love you too."

"Oh my God, you are already kissing him? Boys in San Francisco move so fast."
I laughed. "Cara, I didn't tell you the whole story." I explained to her how I had met Phillip at the field trip and how we had known each other before.
She frowned and she stirred her milkshake. "I was going to move to San Francisco."
I laughed. "You still can," I leaned across the table. "Between you and me," I lowered my voice. "There are a lot of hotter guys in San Francisco, not just Phillip, and they are into Imagine Dragons."
She grinned and made her eyebrows dance like she always does. I laughed.
"So what's been going on since I've been gone?"
She sighed. "Maura being her usual butt self, Danny is being his usual hot self, normal, boring." She sighed. "Is it anymore interesting in San Francisco?"
"Oh yeah." I mumbled, thinking of Amanda. "I better be getting home, our plane leaves in an hour."
"I'll miss you!" We hugged briefly.
"I'll miss you too!"
"Don't get too caught up in those hot guys." Cara warned. "If you do and they all fall in love with you, I'll be here."
I smiled. No matter where I was, I knew I would always have Cara.
***
I have been getting a lot of comments lately about her mom. The reason why I'm not really including her is because her mom is legit in like two minutes of the movie and I didn't have a lot to base off of for her personality and I like to keep things like the movie (for the most part) and she had more of a connection with her dad I guess. If you want me to put her mom in more I can, this is also kind of your guys' (I never say that and think it is the largest grammatical mistake in history but bear with me xD) book and I'd be happy to tweak it to your enjoyment. Thanks for the comments! I love your suggestions!
XOXO
