Headrest for my Soul - AWOLNATION
- Sawyer -
"Okay, I'm here," I yelled out as I shut the front door. I saw that the only light on in the apartment was coming from Tess's room, so I made my way there.
"In here!" I heard Gracie yell. I walked through the doorway and slowly came to a stopped. What I saw in front of me was definitely not what I expected.
Andrew was laying on Tess's bed with his head on her stomach.
"What's going on here?" I asked. I really did think that Andrew would pull through, but only after he binge drank for a month and it finally set in. I did not think it would be so soon for him to accept it.
"We are packing," Hannah told me. I shook my head lightly, still not understanding what was happening.
"Well, we do have a vacation to pack for," Tess told me. She gently ran her fingers through Andrew's hair.
"You're still going?" I asked. I didn't think she'd still go with the baby and Andrew issues to work out.
"Hell yea. I'm not missing out on going to Cancun," She grinned and looked down at Andrew. We had planned a while ago to go on vacation for Hannah and I's graduation. We had all separately bought our plane tickets on our own and our parents were paying for the hotel room. Our flight was a week from today at eight in the morning and Andrew is supposed to be dropping us off at the airport.
"Well that's good, but I still don't understand. Why are we packing a week before we go?" I asked. Usually out of all four of us, Hannah and I were the ones who packed the earliest. To hear that I was interrupted for something that could have waited kind of upset me.
"Well there has been a slight change in plans. Andrew wants to come so we can have our last big trip together before the baby gets any bigger," she rushed, basically all in one big breath. "And we have everyone's approval but yours..." she trailed off. In my opinion it was already a done deal. Even if I said no, I would've been out numbered.
"I don't care Tess, as long as you're happy," I told her. I walked over to where Hannah and Gracie were sitting on the floor and sat down next to them. "I do however, need to go shopping for a few outfits before we leave," I said. I was a little bummed that Brayden and I were interrupted but also extremely thankful at the same time.
"Wait, where'd Brayden go?" Gracie asked me. She shifted so she sat right in front of me so she could see all of my facial expressions.
"He called a cab so I could come over here," I told her, knowing that everyone else in the room was listening as well.
"Wait, Brayden who?" Andrew asked as he pulled himself into an upright position.
"Brayden White," I answered. His face lit up with recognition, then settled into worry.
"Sawyer, he has a pretty serious relationship with Rachel Barnett. They are always on and off, and usually when they're off, they use each other as booty calls," he told me. I saw his hand move off his thigh and reach for Tess. He and Brayden did the same thing, always looking for that person to make sure they are there. I wonder if he did that with Rachel.
I know what else he does with Rachel.
"Yea he told me the basics, minus the sex. He did go to the bathroom and I swear I didn't mean to but his phone went off three times in a row! I thought it might be an emergency so I glanced at the screen, and it was Rachel asking if he was busy," I could hear how sad and disappointed I sounded and it made me so sad that he had this affect on me so quickly.
