Jason has stars on his head and Leo's reaching for forever
Leo sits on the picnic table and if Jason turns his head he'd see the green and yellow dinosaur socks the shorter boy had stuffed into his beat-up Chucks: triceratops and stegosauruses dancing on the dyed cotton.
Instead, Jason leans so the edge of the metal seat digs into his back, lifting his head up enough to track the clouds trekking across the sky.
It's a serene day. The park is empty of people at this time, the long stretch of hours where everyone was either at work or at school. Leo had the great idea of spending their day off outside the apartment. He brought the usual picnic stuff; sandwiches, snacks and drinks laid out beside Leo The oppressive heat has backed off enough for a refreshing breeze to blow through the dry lands.
Leo has long since finished his share of food and drink, though Jason still nurses the Coke he claimed for himself. He takes another sip, letting the soda fizz in his mouth before he swallows.
He relaxes further as Leo reaches down and runs his hands through his hair. It has grown over the past few months, thick strands licking at the base of his neck. His natural black roots have also grown in, giving dimension to the otherwise honey blond.
Leo hums under his breath, a song Jason vaguely recognizes from the radio.
He closes his eyes. It's nice. It's just him, Leo, and an empty park.
Estás perdiendo el tiempo
Pensando, pensando
Por lo que mas tu quieras
When they get back to Leo's apartment Jason insists on helping with dinner, so he chops up vegetables while Leo preps the chicken for baking.
This is another nice thing. Since Leo is significantly shorter than Jason, he can easily bracket him between his arms when standing behind him. Sometimes Leo will fall for it, molding into Jason's chest and heart. Other times, he just giggles and tells Jason to wait.
This time, though, Leo reaches behind him to cup Jason's face. And it's soft, so natural that Jason just melts , resting his chin on Leo's bony shoulder. Leo's fingers card through his hair again, whispering querido over and over.
The waning sunlight streams through the kitchen window, warming Jason's face. To think this is where he ended up, past all the wars and danger of years past.
Safe.
He calls Piper that night, hood pulled tight around his face. Leo is in his room as usual, the sofa becoming as much as a bed as Jason's old cot at Camp Jupiter.
