Matt's POV

When Matt woke up alone on the couch, he was confused at first. He sat up and looked around before realizing that y/n wasn't there anymore. Matt shifted before fully sitting up. He saw Nick and Chris in the kitchen eating, like always. He groaned and got up, walking over to his brothers.

"Did y/n go home?" Matt said, his voice groggy and raspy from just waking up from a nap. He reached his hand up behind him and scratched his neck. The hoodie he was wearing lifted up slightly and a phone fell out of the jacket pocket that wasn't his. His brows furrowed slightly, bending down to pick up the phone as his brothers spoke.

"Nick called her an uber maybe an hour and a half ago." Chris spoke up and eyed the phone that fell from his brother's pocket. "That y/n's phone?" Nick asked. Matt looked at the case and saw that it wasn't his, but it was his girlfriend's. He realized that y/n left without her phone.

"Yeah. Have you seen my keys? I'm gonna drive down to her apartment and give y/n her phone because she'll need it." Matt said and yawned. He stuffed his hands in his hoodie pocket as he walked around the kitchen and dining room, looking for his keys. He found them on the kitchen counter by the food that was left next to the microwave. "Nevermind, I got 'em."

Matt started the van and drove a few blocks down to y/n's apartment. He got out and walked up to her door, knocking softly. After waiting for a few moments, he knocked again, louder this time. Matt called her name a few times before trying the door once he noticed that it was unlocked. "y/n?" he called as he opened the door to the apartment. The moment he walked in and saw the mess, Matt knew something was up. He walked further into the house before finally seeing y/n.

-

Matt walked into y/n's living room and saw her on the couch, passed out and covered in her own vomit. The room smelled like throw up and vodka. He sighed softly and walked over towards y/n. He walked around to the front of the couch and the sight was much worse than what he saw from behind. There was a half empty bottle of vodka next to her on the floor along with all of the wreck.

Matt didn't know what happened to the house – why it was so trashed. He didn't know why she would do this, either. He was just overall confused. Why was she drinking after all of this time? After all the progress and promises that they made to stay sober? Matt sat down next to y/n and moved her off of her back so that if she threw up she wouldn't choke. He spoke quietly to her in a soft voice.

"y/n.. Why – what happened?" y/n woke up as Matt spoke. She was delirious and completely out of it. All she did was look at him. She said nothing and just stared blankly at Matt – There wasn't a thought behind her dull green eyes. She had a drunken smile on her face as she looked at him, as if she wasn't covered in her own vomit. After a little while, he cleaned her up as best as he could.

Matt sat with y/n until she sobered up.

Once she was sober enough, Matt got her water and Advil to help her headache and got her to the bathroom. He wanted to try and get her to shower to get the throw up off of herself because she smelt disgusting. The bathroom was the only room that was left mostly untouched.

Matt had y/n sitting on the toilet as he started to run her a warm shower. He helped her undress while respecting her boundaries and helped her to get into the shower. He closed the shower curtain and sat down on the toilet seat and spoke to y/n as she got herself cleaned up. Tomorrow, he would ask her about what happened to her house, but for right now he was focused on getting her cleaned up so he could drive both himself and y/n back to his and his brother's house.

That night, the two laid in Matt's bed and y/n was nuzzling into Matt's neck and drunkenly mumbled until she fell asleep.

A few days later, y/n and Matt were standing outside of the police station next to each other. y/n was talking to police about the break-in on her apartment. They had figured out what happened and who did it. It had been her father.

hearing that news made y/n want to cry. She held back tears as she listened to the officer that was speaking to her. Her father was an alcoholic and an addict, she should've seen this coming. He was probably trying to get money, weed, alcohol – whatever he could from her house.

When Matt looked over and saw the look on her face, his hand instinctively went to her lower back for support. He knew how hard this must be for her to hear. his thumb rubbed small circles on her lower back as they both listened.

That night, Matt listened to y/n cry and comforted her until she fell asleep.
