The backyard was alive with the sounds of laughter and sizzling as Denis the barbecue man, as Bee fondly calls him, monopolised the barbecue grill. The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm glow on the patio, where the barbecue grill was set up.
A picnic table was adorned with checkered cloth and comfortable chairs were scattered around the yard.
Susan stepped out of the house wearing a loose-fitting off-the-shoulder crop top paired with a high-waisted denim shorts and carrying a bottle of red wine.
Martha, a glass of juice in hand, stood with Hanna laughing over something she'd said.
Bee helped set the table and the scattered chairs then walked over to her boyfriend.
"Hey, barbecue man, need some help?" She said, leaning in for a kiss.
"Nah, i got this covered" He answered, flipping the steak. "But you can be a good girlfriend and get me a glass of wine"
" That i can do."
She walked over to Susan, who was on a call, looking a bit annoyed.
"..Well tell Mike the UI is still glitchy and we have already pushed deadline twice. I need that app up and running as soon as possible Lilian." She frowned and shook her head. "I offered to hire a few freelancers to help out but Mike shut it down. With his damn pride. Look, just lean on him for me will you? Okay, thanks Lil." She blew out a frustrated breath when she ended the call.
"Trouble?' Bee asked, handing Susan the glass of wine she'd poured for Denis because she looked like she needed it more.
"Some. Work stuff." She downed the wine and held out the glass for more."I am not going to bore you with it."
Bee frowned in concern. "Hey, easy there tiger."
She glanced over Bee's shoulders and her scowl deepened. "What the hell is he doing here?"
"Who?" Bee turned and saw Numi walk through the yard and towards Hanna and Martha. "Well, Martha must have invited him"
"Why on earth would she do that?'
"Baby, the sooner you accept Numi is part of this family, the better for us all, 'cause then we won't have to deal with your sour mood whenever he is around." Bee hooked her arm around Susan's. "C'mon, smile" She said when Numi walked towards them.
"Hi Bee" He leaned down and kissed her cheek. "How are you?'
"Pretty good. Glad you could join us today."
"Of course." He turned to Susan with a gleam in his eyes. "Susan"
"Numi" She answered stiffly.
"Crap, i completely forgot i was supposed to get Denis some wine." she picked up the bottle and a glass. "Well, Numi, Susan will make sure you re comfortable. i ll be right back"
Susan glared at Bee's back and cursed silently.
"I am sure you can make yourself comfortable, after all you re practically family" She told him with a sarcastic smile. As she made to leave, he grabbed her arm.
"Susan, i'm sorry"
She blinked. Well, she will be damned. She hadn't expected an apology from him or for it to be so genuine too.
She folded her arms and raised a brow. "For?"
He shifted a little and it pleased her immensely to see that he was uncomfortable, but that didnt mean she was going to take it easy on him.
