Standing in the doorway to his apartment Travis struggled to work out why he'd come home.
He hated everything about this place, the way it looked, the way it smelt, the way it felt
19 years old and a home owner... most guys his age would be celebrating if they were in his position but would they pay what it had cost him? His entire family?
Shutting the blue, painted door he walked into his open plan living room and kitchen and sat at the built in breakfast bar.
Mrs. Smith downstairs had given him her old pink and grey floral sofa last year when she had got a new one but Travis used it as a bed so used the breakfast bar for sitting and thinking and right now he was over thinking
He should have stayed with Taylor, he knew that without doubt, that way he would have been swimming in the lake and eating breakfast over a camp fire instead on sitting alone, his mood dipping lower and lower each second he remained still
******************
Taylor on the other hand was enjoying a lazy morning. She had spent an hour or maybe more swimming in the lake and had then gone fishing, catching one fish for breakfast and another to take with her when she left town that night.
Lighting a fire she waited for it to burn down and then set about cooking her haul.
"Hey Louis look what we have here!" A male voice shouted.
Taylor looked up, using her hand to shade her eyes from the sun but couldn't see where the voice was coming from
"Ah! A lesser spotted wild female. Completely out of its natural habitat" said a figure as it emerged from the forest, finally showing himself to be a tall, thin man, probably mid to late twenties wearing knee length denim shorts, hiking boots and nothing else other that a red snap back cap
"Hi" Taylor said cheerily, her senses beginning to spike
"Hello" said a different voice as another male, this time shorter man with sandy blond hair and a pair of black board shorts paired with his hiking boots as he emerged from the same forest only much closer to where Taylor sat cooking and her heart began to pound, that pounding turned to loud thumping in her chest and her head as another two men exited the forest, all of them pausing and then looking between her and each other
"Need some real men to show you how that's done?" Asked the sandy headed man as they all started closing in around her
"No thank you, it's almost cooked, but thanks for the offer" she dropped her head to observe her meal, hating the way her hands trembled as she gripped the spatula
"I think we'll just take a seat then" said the tall guy in the cap dropping down onto a log next to her, invading her personal space and causing her to shuffle to her left to put some distance between them "just in case you break a nail or something sweetheart"
All four men laughed loudly as they closed in around her and she gripped the metal utensil tight, allowing it to sit in the flames a while longer so it heated up thoroughly
"So what's a pretty little girl like you doing all dirtied up in the middle of nowhere?" Asked one of the men as he reached out and pushed her bangs from her forehead
"Just travelling" She said with a forced smile "It's um... just me and my boyfriend he's around here somewhere if you hang around long enough he'll be back and maybe we can share a beer" She grinned showing all her teeth and hoping above hope that they believed her and were put off by the thought she could have a boyfriend mulling around somewhere. Of course she didn't but she hadn't given up hope that Travis might grow bored without her and cycle back
"A boyfriend eh? And yet only one fish"
"He's vegan" She replied quick as a whip "weird I know but... I love him either way"
"Yeah I'm sure you have a boyfriend and I'm sure he's around here somewhere" said the guy in the cap as he threw his arm around Taylors shoulder and held her tightly to him "He's happy to share though right?"
Taylors heart almost exploded in panic as every part of her screamed to run
'He's happy to share...'
Her... they want to share her
She looked around the small clearing, the four men took up most of it and her keys were inside the van, they would have hold of her and finished with her before she could even locate them
"No I fuckin will not share!" Came a familiar voice that Taylor was so excited to hear she almost screamed with happiness "What the fuck's going on here babe? I leave camp for an hour and you have four fuckin guys over"
Travis stretched himself to his full 6 foot 4 in height and hoped they took his presence as enough of a threat to leave because he wasn't a fighter, not against one guy and definitely not against four of them
"I was just offering them some fish" she answered innocently as she quickly jumped to her feet and rushed to Travis' side, wrapping an arm around his back and the other around his waist
"It was the pussy we were interested in not the fish" laughed the guy in the cap "But I guess that is taken"
"Well and truly taken" reiterated Travis as he pulled Taylor possessively towards him "why don't you get on your way, go find a girl without a boyfriend" Travis' heart was thumping so hard he knew he needed them to believe he would hurt them because if they doubted him then it four against one and in a fight he was barely a half
"Probably a good idea not to leave your girl alone in the woods, you never know what kind of trouble she could get herself into" all four of the men laughed and Travis began to panic that they weren't going to leave as he clung to Taylor but slowly they all stood up and began moving away from the camp, leaving all sorts of obscene names directed at the girl hanging in the air as they went
"Oh my God you were amazing!" Laughed Taylor as she threw here arms around Travis' neck
"Amazing?! I was on the verge of blacking out the entire time, if one of them had said 'boo' I would have had a heart attack and died"
"Well I was very impressed. My hero!" She giggled again as she kissed his cheek and then returned to her fish, taking it from the heat and placing it on a plate
"You eat fish for breakfast?" Travis asked as he sat on the log next to her and turned up his nose at the sight
"I caught it myself!" She replied proudly "want to share?"
"Sure. Thank you"
"It's the least I can do since you just rescued me from 4 bone heads"
"I don't think it was the bone in their heads you had to worry about" Travis said whilst taking his share of the fish
"Yeah well, when you're a female travelling alone you're always gonna get the odd guy who thinks he can take advantage, but hey... you came back!"
"Good job too" Travis said as he filled his mouth with fish, hoping to get out of answering why he had returned because in truth he wasn't sure, all he knew was he hated his life but when he was with Taylor it was as if his old life stopped existing and he was a different kind of Travis and he was beginning to like that Travis a lot
