Dinner was nice
The food was nice
The wine was nice
The atmosphere was heated
The conversation... loaded
Taylor seemed to try her hardest to make her intentions as glaringly obvious as possible whilst Travis struggled when faced with such blatant sexual attention
Dessert was fruit and Travis would have sworn and probably would have been correct in assuming Taylor was sliding each piece of fruit over her lips in a way that signalled she was thinking of something else
"Ready for bed?" She asked suddenly, standing from the table and collecting the plates and glasses and heading back into her van before Travis could even muster a response.
Sat in the relative darkness of the night, the stars twinkling brightly over head, Travis tried to gather himself, there was no way tonight was going to be the innocent cuddling of last year.
The dress...
The atmosphere...
The conversation...
He was in full panic mode, sure that he was about to make the biggest ass of himself, sure he was about to disappoint the best thing that ever walked into his life
"Are you coming in?" He heard her call as his heart began thudding hard against his rib cage
He wanted this...
Was desperate for this...
But was so terrified by this that he thought he might actually be going to have a breakdown of some kind
Pushing himself to his feet he took deep breath after deep breath, every thought he had was begging his body to calm down
The two steps to the van were the longest walk he had ever taken in his life and as he pushed open the door he almost blacked out there and then because not only was the van lit by the electric candles of a year ago and not only was the soft piped music of a year ago playing but Taylor was there, lying on her bed in only a black, lace negligee
"Holy fuck" Travis hadn't meant for those words to be anything more than a thought in his mind but as they hit the warm air of the van he felt his cheeks blaze
"Surprise" she almost whispered and Travis had no idea what he was supposed to say or do when greeted by a sight that was far beyond any of his wildest expectations for tonight
"Wow"
"I hope this isn't too presumptive of me but I've been thinking about you since last year and I'm leaving tomorrow and if I didn't fire my shot I would have regretted it and I think I told you this before but I'm not the type of girl to regret anything" she patted the space next to her on the bed and Travis wanted to head to it and sit down but his body refused to move, his brain and limbs apparently refusing to coordinate at this most vital time. "Travis?"
He just gazed at the sight in front of him unable to move, unable to speak
"Have I got this completely wrong?" She pushed herself up from her lounging position and suddenly Travis saw this moment slipping away from him and finally his body kicked in, as he closed the space to the bed and dropped down on to it
"No" he forced himself to say "No"
"Then what? This isn't exactly the response I was expecting"
"I'm sorry, it's me, it's always me, you... You look amazing, I'm... you're gonna have to give me a minute" he rubbed a hand over his face hating how useless he was at this, how he was ruining this perfect evening she apparently had planned for them
