I wake up screaming at 5 am a week after Carmilla left. I'd never had night terrors this bad before, but this week, I've been waking up twice on a good night. Even though I'm as sleep deprived is you can be, I decide not to endure another awful dream so I go to the kitchen and talk to Perry, who is cleaning the kitchen and preparing for breakfast. Her cooking is so good, I wish I could bring myself to eat more than a few bites each meal.
"Bad dreams again?"Perry asks even though it's probably obvious since I look like I'm going to kill someone at all times and she most likely heard me screaming. I nod and force myself to eat some of the fruit she's given me. "I know you're worried Laura," Perry says in that motherly voice of hers, sweet yet stern, "and you have every right to be, but I've been worried about losing someone I love before, when LaFontaine went all party girl. If you're anything like me, which I know you are, you feel bad for ever being happy and try to make yourself sad. What you need is something to cheer you up. Maybe something that reminds you of Carmilla, and the best of her." I poke my food in silence and wait for her to come up with something. The time never comes, but the silence is broken when Perry tells me to watch something on Netflix that isn't sad, like an episode of Doctor Who that isn't "Doomsday" or "The Angels Take Manhattan" I agree, but don't reach for the remote, so Perry just chooses something herself. When she starts yelling at the TV to let her look at other seasons, LaFontaine emerges from their room and sets me up with "Rose" which makes my smile for the first time in a week because I know they remember me saying it's one of my favorite episodes. I spend the rest of the day sipping hot cocoa and nibbling on baked goodies when Perry suddenly yells "We're gonna get you a cat!" and starts planning with LaF
