" the charm of horror only tempts the strong"
Jean Lorrain
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━𝐈𝐓'𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 a week. A week of internal torture, forcing myself not to look back, trying and failing to convince myself that whatever is out there watching me, is just a figure of my own sickening imagination and not real. It can't be. Because every time I'm sure I'll catch whatever, or rather whoever is out there watching me, I look back to see absolutely nothing. It's just me, the darkness, and my deluding brain.
It should be no surprise that the feeling of being watched still causes me to stiffen up in awareness, it's natural, as much so that any human would hideaway in fear. I mean that's what I should be doing now, locking up all my doors and windows, not allowing myself to see another light of day until I am sure that whatever is causing me such fear and shameful excitement is gone. Completely.
Instead, the smell of fresh baked bread, sizzling garlic, and aromatic spices brings me back to my whereabouts. It's three in the afternoon on a Saturday and as promised, Luna has taken Lyrah and I for lunch to a restaurant by the name of BayBound Bar & Eatery near the beach.
Along with the smell of mouth-watering food, fresh salty water and sand fusing together overpowers my senses too, as Lyrah, Luna and I sit near the corner of the restaurant, where it's both closer to the beach but also surrounded by opened windows to allow cool air to brush in and minimize the amount of body heat advancing around the space.
Baybound Eatery & Bar is a beautifully constructed place with a modern, minimalistic look, the color scheme a simple white and beige, that beightens up its features, making it feel more homey. The place is busy, but not filled to the brim, making it easy for chats and laughter to flow through.
A total of seven tables surround the medium sized space, and with each table, there are two chairs sitting near the space of the walkway – which the waiters and waitresses use to get to and from tables, delivering deliciously fresh meals to excited customers — and a comfortable window seating with blue and white striped pillows to match with the beaches vibe.
A bar sits upfront near the entrance of the restaurant. It's walls containing archways, which hold different selections of liquor available, LED lights stripped around it's shape, adding more effect and depth to the restaurant. A charismatic sight to the eyes.
Laughter and smiles are registered around the room, as many families, couples and friends chatter about their weeks, lives and much more. However my mind is preoccupied as Luna and Lyrah are chatting away, the sounds of their voices filling my ears, but the words muted as they speak.
Occasionally I take a sip of my water, mutter a few words, look their way, and laugh to fill in my silence, then nod, only to return back to my aching brain which doesn't rest at the thought of my possible stalker. Invisible stalker?
